THEME: GOD’S MERCY
2 Kings 19:1-3 NKJV
“And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. Then he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz. And they said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah: ‘This day is a day of trouble, and rebuke, and blasphemy; for the children have come to birth, but there is no strength to bring them forth.”
INSIGHT
–When Jerusalem was threatened by the Assyrian army under the command and rebuke of their king, Hezekiah tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth before entering the temple to pray for God’s mercy. His humility, along with the prophet Isaiah’s intercession, led to a miraculous divine intervention where one hundred and eighty-five thousand (185,000) Assyrian soldiers were struck down dead in a single night by the angel of the Lord. Sennacherib king of Assyria then departed and went to worship in the temple of Nisroch his god, when his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with the sword. King Hezekiah later enjoyed the mercy of the Lord when he was added fifteen (15) years when he became sick.
PRAYER
We bless Your name Lord and exalt You forever and forever. We bless Your holy name and forget not all Your benefits. Lord You forgive all our iniquities, heal all our diseases, redeem our lives from destruction, crown us with lovingkindness and tender mercies, satisfy our mouths with good things, so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Lord You execute righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. Lord You are merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. Lord You do not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities, for as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is Your mercy toward us who fear You. May You have mercy on us precious Redeemer and save us from all our enemies and troubles. May You fight for us dear Jesus all our battles and set us free in every sphere of our lives. We pray this believing and trusting in Jesus mighty name. Amen
