WITNESS

Genesis 31:48-50 And Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me this day.” Therefore its name was called Galeed, also Mizpah, because he said, “May the Lord watch between you and me when we are absent one from another. If you afflict my daughters, or if you take other wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us—see, God is witness between you and me!”

INSIGHT -In Hebrew, witness is written as ed & it means testify, attest, give evidence, affirm -Jacob & Laban set up a covenant in form of a heap of stones as witness (Galeed/Mizpah) that Jacob will not hurt Laban’s daughters & will not take any other wives. Further, neither of them should cross to the either side of the heap to cause harm to the other. Laban acclaimed that God is witness between them. Jacob then offered a peace offering & they took bread together as a sign of peace.

PRAYER: May we always be at peace in our homes, places of work & nations, Lord, for Your mercy endures forever. Watch over us & protect us from those who cause us pain. Amen

Exodus 20:16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

INSIGHT -Prov 19:9, A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish. -We choice the kind of witnesses we want to become to our brethren but it is important that we habor truth in our hearts.

PRAYER: You are the way, the truth & the life, Jesus, may we always live according to Your will. Amen

1 John 5:10-11 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

INSIGHT -We are called to believe in the Son of God, Jesus, who is God & by this we obtain eternal life & by Whom it (eternal life) bears witness in our hearts.

PRAYER: Your Word oh Lord is truth, may it accomplish what You please & prosper in all things. Jesus, dwell with us always that by trusting in You; we may live to eternity. Amen

1 John 5:6-8 This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

INSIGHT – There are Three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit & three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood. We also have a great cloud of witnesses; therefore we should hold fast our faith in Jesus (Heb 12:1-2).

PRAYER You are the beginning, perfecter, and rewarder of our faith; Jesus. May we be led by Your wisdom, truth & endurance in this journey of faith. Amen

Hebrews 2:2-4 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

INSIGHT -God is our witness even when no man watches us/ A witness can be established in form of a pile of rocks as a covenant between people/ we are commanded not to bear false witness against our neighbour/ The testimony of God is in His son Jesus by whom we access eternal life witness in our hearts/ The Father, the Word & the Holy Spirit bear witness in heaven as One. The Spirit, the water & the blood bear witness on earth/ We have a great cloud of witnesses/ God bears witness of salvation in our lives through the Holy Spirit in signs, wonders, miracles & gifts of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit our witness, impart Your gifts & fruit in us so that we may always live by Your grace as joint heirs with Christ. May we always believe in You; Jesus through Your works of salvation as we do Your will on earth as it is in heaven. Amen
