THEME: GREAT EXPLOITS

Acts 19:11–12

Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.”

INSIGHTS

Paul’s life is a clear depiction of a transformed life that fully lived and died for Christ. He wrote many epistles, performed great miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit and eventually suffered and died for the gospel. From His life, we learn that despite the persecutions a Christian may face we should endeavor to transform many to Christ and walk in divine power and miracles as done by Jesus Christ. For as to all who believe, they shall do even much more than was done by Jesus during His life here on earth before His crucifixion. Paul who initially was called Saul before his miraculous encounter with Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus, changing from a fierce persecutor of Christians into a foundational apostle of the early Church. This was just the beginning of his journey of exploits as a servant of God . Paul actively defended and fought for the gospel. From striking Elymas the sorcerer in Paphos with blindness after he tried to hinder the Roman Governor from hearing the gospel of Christ and opposing Paul and Barnabas. He preached the word and many were led to Christ in that they stopped purchasing idols from the local silver-smiths which made the local silver-smith start a massive city-wide riot against Paul. He walked in miracles, signs and wonders as he healed a lifelong crippled man in Lystra, he raised Eutychus from the dead after he fell from a window. Paul was bitten by a venomous viper on Malta but suffered no harm. God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, and even clothes that had contact with him carried the power of the Holy Spirit to heal the sick and cast out demons. Paul teaches us that despite it all we should remain rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. He was stoned and left for dead in Lystra, but miraculously survived and returned to preach; he was even jailed with Silas but they prayed and sang hymns to God until all the doors and chains were open for him, Silas and all prisoners; he faced chains in Jerusalem, was put under house arrest in Rome and faced tremendous persecution and was eventually beheaded in Rome having kept the faith, fought the good fight and finished the race.
