THEME: GREAT EARTHQUAKE
Matthew 27:50-53 NKJV
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
INSIGHT
–During the death of Jesus Christ, there was a fierce earthquake that led to the tearing of the temple curtain. The veil signified that Christ, by His death, opened a way to God. We have an open way through Christ to the throne of grace, or mercy-seat now, and to the throne of glory hereafter. When we duly consider Christ’s death, our hard and rocky hearts should be rent; the heart, and not the garments. That heart is harder than a rock that will not yield, that will not melt, where Jesus Christ is plainly set forth crucified.
SUMMARY
The word earthquake is written as Seismos in Greek and re’idat adamah in Hebrew to mean violent shaking, commotion or storm. When Paul and Silas were arrested, at midnight they prayed and sang hymns to God, suddenly there was a great earthquake that shook the foundations of prison. All the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. (Acts 16:25-28). Prophet Amos received the word of the Lord concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.” (Amos 1:1). The earthquake may symbolize the anger of the Lord which causes the earth to shake and foundations of the hills to be shaken (Psalms 18:7). The earthquake also symbolizes the end times when the sixth seal will be opened and the sun will become black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon like blood. The stars of heaven will fall to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind (Revelation 6:12-13).
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus You are gracious and kind, Your merciful love endures to all generations. You are the creator of the heavens and the earth, and everything in them. You are the creator of earthquakes and every creation on the heavens and the earth. May You save us and all the nations from severe earthquakes causing death and destruction of property. You are our Lord and God, may You prepare us for Your second coming. May You release Your salvation power unto us and our loved ones and cause us redemption of our souls. May You our God of peace sanctify us completely; and preserve our whole spirit, soul, and body blameless at Your coming dear Lord Jesus Christ. Dear Lord Jesus You are worthy of all our praise and adoration, we worship You. May You bless us and keep us, may You make Your face to shine upon us and be gracious unto us, may You shine Your countenance unto us and give us peace. Amen
