THEME: THE NAME OF JESUS
2 Thessalonians 3:6-10 NIV
”In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
INSIGHT
–The name of Jesus is authoritative and gives command to all men. The word of God discloses unending possibilities in the name of Jesus. The scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Apostle Paul discloses his intention to teach the Thessalonians not only by word but through actions. He instructs that one should not contend with believers who are idle for they may exhibit characteristics of busybodies who lead others astray in lawlessness and laziness. Apostle Paul endeavored to work through tent making even as he preached the gospel (Acts 18:3). We are also reminded that those who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness (2 Timothy 2:19).
PRAYER
Father we come before Your throne of grace and mercy this day with thanksgiving and adoration in our hearts. We exult and magnify You our precious Savior and Redeemer. Father we pray in that by Your Grace You shall help us to walk and live worthy of our calling. We pray that You shall teach us how to be diligent and to do what is pleasing You oh Lord, that we shall forever bring glory and honor to Your Name Lord Jesus. Dear Lord by Your power may You bring to fruition Your every desire for Your goodness. May You deliver us from every form of idleness and laziness, and every wickedness. We pray for all those who are jobless that You may empower them and grant them meaningful jobs and business opportunities, and the willingness to work as if they are working for You Lord. We pray believing and trusting in Jesus Mighty name. Amen
