THEME: UNITY IN PRAYER
1 Samuel 7:5-12 NKJV
”And Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.” So they gathered together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before the Lord. And they fasted that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah. Now when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, the Lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines. So the children of Israel said to Samuel, “Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.” And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. Now as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the Lord thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel. And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and drove them back as far as below Beth Car. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
INSIGHT
–Samuel was called to be a priest at a relatively young age. During his inception days in office, Israel went to war against the Philistines and four thousand Israel soldiers were killed in the conquest and the ark of the covenant was captured. After these events Eli the former priest and his two sons died and Samuel took full responsibility as priest in Israel. Samuel then requested the Israelites to put away their idols and worship God alone. Samuel offered a sacrifice to the Lord and prayed for the Israelites and they regained their victory and conquered the Philistines. We are called to seek God mercy in prayer and put away all the idols in our lives and nation, and we will obtain victory in every battle for the glory and honor of God’s name.
PRAYER
Dear Lord we come before You this day. We adore and worship You. You are great and greatly to be praised. Lord there is none like You in all the earth and the heavens. Thank You Jesus for all You have done for us, thank You for Your love, mercies, kindness and goodness. Lord may You have Your way in our lives. We surrender unto You all and put our will down and take up Your will for our lives. May You forgive us for the sins and iniquity we have done for every form of idolatry in our lives and lineages. May You purify us and cleanse us by Your precious blood Lord. May You remove all unforgivness from our hearts and save us. We humbly pray that You may fill us with Your precious Holy Spirit and enable us to travail in prayer and seek You deeper just as Samuel did on behalf of the Israelites. Oh Holy Spirit teach us how to pray and what to pray for. Father, You are the God of all victory, for all victory belongs to You Jesus. May You fight for us all our battles and give us victory over all our adversary. May You lift our head from the miry clay and exalt us that many may see and praise You oh Lord for it is You who has done this and all the glory belongs to You. We trust in You Lord that You have heard us and we thank You for You will do it, we pray this in Jesus Mighty name, Amen.
