THEME: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Ecclesiastes 11:1 NKJV
”Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.“
INSIGHT
-Financial management cannot be complete without investment. This ensures that the savings are utilized in a more economically viable way to ensure multiplication and growth. When the bread or funds are cast upon the water, various risk factors are engaged to ensure a return in the near or far future, by the grace of God.
SUMMARY
The foundational concept of financial management discloses the need to save and invest. Proper utilization of financial resources is seen through saving. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream revealing a season of plenty followed by a season of lack, therefore the need to save for the future. The dream was characterized by seven years of plenty followed by seven years of drought displayed by a diversity of cattle (Genesis 41:25-30). Saving now will save you tomorrow. Once savings have been secured then an investment plan can be structured. These savings should be invested wisely to ensure multiplication of financial resources. The other component of financial management is budgeting and cashflow assessment. Jesus reveals that incase one is required to build a tower, they first need to calculate the cost lest they do not complete the project and ridicule sets in (Luke 14:28-30). The fourth component of financial management is debt planning. Debt management encompasses, loan planning, servicing and avoidance of risks that are associated with it. There are two main theories that help in debt management; they include the theory of debt management, information asymmetry. In 2 Kings 4:1-7 we find prophet Elisha who intervened in a situation where a widow’s sons were being auctioned because of her late husband’s debt. The deceased prophet took loans and did not repay them leaving the family in bad shape. It is prudent to take a loan and use it for the intended purpose if it a must, otherwise avoid it and live within your means. The fifth element of financial management is integrity in stewardship. Jesus outlines the importance of managing other people property with prudence and shrewdness. He notes that those who can be trusted in what is other peoples can be trusted in their own (Luke 16:1-13).
