THEME: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Genesis 41:25-30 NKJV

”Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do: The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads are seven years; the dreams are one. And the seven thin and ugly cows which came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty heads blighted by the east wind are seven years of famine. This is the thing which I have spoken to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do. Indeed seven years of great plenty will come throughout all the land of Egypt; but after them seven years of famine will arise, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine will deplete the land.“

INSIGHT

-Christmas season is usually pervaded by mismanagement and wastage of  financial resources. Most people do not consider the expenditure that comes at the start of a new year. Savings is a key element of financial management that should be embraced by every individual, institution and areas of the economy to ensure growth and development. Pharaoh’s dream speaks of financial management. Long famines were rare Egypt because of the regularity of the annual overflow of the Nile, but not uncommon elsewhere (2 Kings 8:1). Seven years of plenty signified that God wanted the people to store up for themselves resources to use in the seven years of famine that would follow. God has spoken of a similar situation in the coming two years that we should manage our resources wisely. It is only prudent to rely on God’s wisdom in all situations even when there is plenty that we may not be wasteful but consider saving for tomorrow. Proper financial management ultimately involves dependency on God’s wisdom on how to utilize our resources well, saving and proper investment strategies.

PRAYER

Almighty Father we come before Your throne of mercy this day to proclaim Your greatness and might. Oh Lord we worship and adore You for there is none like You. Dear Lord, we surrender our lives to You and ask that You may forgive us of all our sins and wash us with Your precious blood Lord Jesus. May You forgive us for where we have mismanaged our finances and used our finances in a way that doesn’t bring glory and honor to You. May You teach us how to manage our finances well and use our finances in a way that glorifies You oh Lord. May You bless the works of our hands and help us to take care of the little or the much that You give us so that You may be pleased. We thank You for You are great and greatly to be praised. We thank You our wonderful Teacher for Your ways are pure and perfect. Thank You for hearing our prayers that You may answer us according to Your will and purpose. May You deliver us from looming famine and grant us moderate rains that we may have productivity in our land. May You remember the less fortunate in the society and provide for them according to Your riches in glory and as per their needs. We pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ trusting and believing. Amen.
