THEME: FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD

James‬ ‭2‬:‭19‬-‭23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.”

INSIGHT
-Friend in Hebrew is written as chaver or chaber and in Greek filia or philoi which means companion, ally, confidant and associate. Abraham the father of faith was a friend of God. He believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. It is by faith that we please God, and He rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrew 11:6). When Abraham was instructed to go and sacrifice his son, he did not hesitate nor delay but trusted in the Lord, the giver of all things and all life. It is by faith that we are justified and have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). Since faith without work is dead, we are called to apply faith and obedience to God, and He will perfect us in every good work. We find from the life of Abraham that it is by faith and obedience to God’s word that we become His friends.
