THEME: SHOES OF THE GOSPEL

Luke 15:20-23 NKJV

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;”

INSIGHT

–In the Biblical times, slaves were often barefoot, while shoes symbolized freedom, dignity and sonship. The story of the prodigal son provide an image of restoration of dignity and hope having being clothed in the best robe or honor and dignity. It may also symbolize covering of sin and redemption to righteousness. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have renewed hope, forgiveness of sins and provision of eternal life. Jesus calls us to love one another, forgive each other and preach the gospel of peace. Merry making in the story showcases that God rejoices over the return of a lost sinner.

PRAYER

Great are You Lord God and greatly to be praised Oh Lord. You have established Your city in Your holy mountain and Your throne endures forever. Have mercy upon us, O God according to Your lovingkindness, according to the multitude of Your tender mercies. Blot out our transgressions Oh Lord. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity and cleanse us from my sin. Lord the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few, may You grant us the grace to preach the gospel of hope and peace to the captives. May You release Your gift of salvation to all people and save us. All glory, honor, power and mercy belongs to You Lord now and forever. Amen
