THEME: SANDAL

Mark 6:7‭-‬9 ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts— but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.

INSIGHT
-It was of prime importance that Jesus send out His disciples to proclaim the gospel. With companion; He looked at the sheep without a shepherd and noted that the harvest was plentiful but the labourers few (Mat 9:36‭-‬38). Jesus then commissioned His disciples; cautioning them against carrying food, bags and money but only a staff, sandals and one tunic each. This was a call for them to totally trust in Him as we find in Luke 22:35 that; despite carrying no such provisions, the disciples lacked nothing. Sandals here outline a peculiar sense of spiritual and physical manifestation of Gods’ divine provision; as Jesus instructed them to shod their feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Eph 6:15). We are also called to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and rely not our own understand and His peace that surpasses all understanding will dwell in our hearts. To also proclaim the gospel of peace in our own capacities; be it through doing good works, godly character, giving advice, teaching, preaching etc, for the labourers are few and the harvest is plentiful.
