“(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)”
-Humility in Hebrew is written as anavah which means to be gentle or meek. We find numerous references of humility in the Bible including & not limited to the following; Humility & meekness are often inseparable ( 2 Col 10:1 ; Eph 4:2 ; Col 3:12 ), God our Father is humble to help the poor & needy (Ps 113:4-9; 138:6-7) & calls us to generosity, humility is necessary to enter the kingdom of God (Mat 18:1-4 ) & to be great in it (Mat 20:26-27 ; Mk 10:43-44 ), it’s a sign of selflessness (Mat 10:38-39 ; Luke 9:23-25 ), It is required in prayer ( 2 Chro 7:14 ; Dan 6:10 ; 9:3-20 ), It is required when fasting ( Lev 16:29-32 ; 23:27-32 ; Ezra 8:21 Ezra 8:23 ; Ps 35:13 ; Dan 10:1-3 Dan 10:12), God denounces false humility (Col 2:18; 2:23). Humility is the prerequisite for blessings (Ps 37:11 ; Mat 5:5 ) & honor ( Prov 15:33 ; 18:12 ; 22:4 ; 29:23 ). It is associated with the fear of God (Ps 25:9; 25:12-14 ; Prov 15:33 ), & is a gateway to eternal life ( Mat 5:3 ; 18:1-4). It is the key to wealth & life ( Prov 22:4 ); God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud ( Prov 3:34 ; Jam 4:6 ; 1 Pet 5:5 ), God often delivers people who humble themselves ( 2 Chron 32:24-26 ; 34:26-28 ) & exults the humble ( Mat 23:12 ; Lk 1:52 ; 14:11 ; 18:14 ; Jam 4:10 ). Humility is the foremost test of a truly great person or leader ( Lk 22:24-27 ). Jesus is meek & humble at heart (Mat 11:29), He humbled Himself as a servant (John 13:1-16 ) & came to serve ( Mat 20:28 ; Mk 10:45 ; Lk 22:27 ). Christs’ humility was displayed even unto death ( Isa 53:7-8 ; Acts 8:32-33 ) in obedience to the Father ( Phil 2:5-8 ), who is highly exalted (Phil 2:9-11). We ought to emulate Christ’ example of humility (Mat 11:28-30 ; 2 Col 10:1 ).
-With humility comes obedience & servant-hood, Moses was in the right spiritual attitude for his assignments. God tells us that; if one wants to be great, he/she must be a servant to all, Moses was the meekest & God used him in a special way to deliver the Israelites from bondage in Egypt, gave him the privilege to receive & deliver the ten commandments, to talk to God face to face & perform many signs. God requires us to bear humility by acting justly, love mercifully & to walk humbly with Him (Micah 6:8).
We thank You Father for the grace to see this new day in great health. We know that some are sick & weak, we believe that by Your stripes they are healed Jesus. Thank Your for the graces & provision that You have always provided, You have given us food, clothes, a place to sleep, & many other gifts, we can only say thank You our Faithful Father. We humbly ask You Lord to provide for all those who are struggling to meet their needs. Lord God, You are the creator of heavens & earth. Shun from us all feelings of pride & let me walk with You like Moses did. Fill my heart with humility & may this fruit be a blessing to many. We also ask You Holy Spirit to give us the fruit of humility so that we may act justly, love mercifully & walk humbly with You, all the days of our lives. Amen
“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
-We find out that the meaning of humility is to fear the Lord. Humility & wisdom therefore marry since the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom & the fruits are similar; riches, honor & life. According to 1 Kings 3:3-10, king Solomon demonstrated the fear of the Lord by loving God unreservedly, walking according to His statutes & additionally; offered sacrifices to Him. When God appeared to him in a dream he asked for wisdom, & God granted him riches, honor, peace & long life. Jesus confirms these truths through the beatitudes by saying; blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth (Mat 5:5).
We give You all the glory, honor, power & adoration our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. Nothing can be compared to You Lord. Fill our hearts with wisdom, humility, love & the fear of You Father & help us to walk according to Your will. In Your merciful love Lord; grant us abundant prosperity in the fruit of our womb, the young of our livestock & the crops of our ground in the land You swore to our ancestors to give us. Open up the heavens, the storehouse of Your bounty, to send rain on our land in season & to bless all the work of our hands Jesus. We firmly believe that a day will come when we will lend to many nations & borrow from none because You are mighty Jehovah in every way. We believe that will always be at the top & never at the bottom, make us the heads & not the tails Lord, for Your love for us is everlasting. Amen
Peter 5:5-6 Submit to God, Resist the Devil Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.
INSIGHT -God resists the proud therefore we should submit to Him in humility. -We should show humility to one another so that we can live in peace, love & harmony amongst ourselves. Humility is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, which pleases both God & man, and in turn repels strife, anger, disagreement & shame. Humility in the Lord yields all good things in due time.
PRAYER: Abba Father, I seek your humility & grace today. Give me humility so that I can submit to You fully & be humble to those in authority, my loved ones & all mankind. Father, You are full of humility, mercy & love do not depart from me but give me the power to resist the devil. Father, Your Name be lifted & glorified forever. Amen.
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
INSIGHT -Jesus taught the multitude & His disciples the beatitudes. -He said; blessed are the humble for they will inherit the earth. -The Isrealites inherited the land of Canaan as declared in Numbers 34:2.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, make me humble at heart & an instrument of Your peace. Draw me close to You each day as I seek first Your kingdom & it’s righteousness. Let Your will prevail in my life & my family. Amen.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
INSIGHT -Apostle Paul enlightens us on the fruit of the Holy Spirit. -This is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humilty & self-control. -This is one fruit, which is the Holy Spirit as God & with the fruit evil cannot overcome us. -He also writes that against this fruit there is no law as evil spirits battle with the Holy Spirit within us.
PRAYER: Holy Spirit, come to naurish my spirit with Your Holy fruit. Instill in me a clean heart, mind, soul & spirit as I seek You every hour. Come to my help so that I can resist temptations & fight all evil that drifts me far from You. I thank You & glorify Your Holy Name. Amen.
“In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.”
-Christ is gently & humble at heart & governs His Kingdom with majesty, truth, humility & justice, unlike the kingdom of darkness which is ruled by evil & pride leading to death & desolation. His right hand is full of power & justice to accomplish His eternal plan. God has established His Kingdom within us (Luke 17:21) & calls us to live according to His will by upholding righteousness, peace & love.
O LORD, our Lord we rejoice & are glad in You O Most High; how excellent is Your name in all the earth. You have set Your glory above the heavens; how excellent is Your name in all the earth. By Your right hand merciful Father; show Your marvelous lovingkindness & sustain all those who trust in You. You shall judge the world in righteousness & truth; how excellent is Your name in all the earth. Keep us as the apple of Your eye Lord & hide us under the shadow of Your wings. We give thanks to You Lord with all our hearts & tell You of all Your wonderful deeds; how excellent is Your name in all the earth. Amen
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,”
-Christ emphasizes on humility in sacrifice before self. Sometimes we prioritize our self-importance or egotistic interests before the love of God & love for neighbors; thus violating the basic moral & spiritual principles which is against our primary purpose. Selfish ambitions & pride have often been sighted as major causes of personal, social, political & economic failures as evidenced in the world today. Christ calls us to consider the interests of others as our own by doing good & sharing with others; for through such sacrifices He is well pleased (Heb 13:16).
May the words of our mouths & the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to Your sight, O LORD. Train our hearts in humility Father to love You as You desire & to consider the interests of others before our own. Give us hearts of compassion that we may always be willing to assist those who need us most & by sharing what You have given us Lord. May our praise & good works be perfected in Your love Father; so that they may always be pleasing sacrifices to You Lord. You are our Strength & Redeemer Jesus in You only we put our trust. Amen
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
-Christ is gentle & humble at heart & calls us to be like little children & totally submit on Him for His yoke is easy & burden is light. Through Christs’ humility & sacrifice even unto death on the cross & exultation in glory with the Father; we learn from Him & seek His divine help in the various obstacles we face in life.
Many references can be sighted for the word humility not by nature or design but for Gods’ ultimate purpose to be revealed in our lives. Humility has been defined as the fear the Lord; & it’s wages are riches, honor & life (Prov 22:4); just like wisdom & love. Most of Gods’ servants including; Moses, Abraham, David, Solomon, Mary, Ruth, Paul & many others exhibited characteristics of humility through the fear of the Lord & faith in Him; & they were exulted in different capacities. Others like Satan, king Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh et cetera; ruled with pride & exulted themselves but they were humbled. Such Biblical truths are exposed in reality confirming that established laws function through the action-reaction policy. Laws pose as the action followed by the fruit of given events as the reaction. Jesus in Matthew 23:12; says that “those who exalt themselves will be humbled, & those who humble themselves will be exalted.” When we humble ourselves before the Lord; we display reverence, respect & submission to Him which opens us up to many graces & establishes a firm relationship with Him, & those around us. The Holy Spirit fills us with this beautiful fruit of humility which gives us a relational edge as we continually receive direction & guidance from Him.
In Your presence Jesus we inherit fullness of joy & find rest for our souls; forgive our sins & cover us with Your precious blood. We submit our lives to You Holy Spirit asking You to fill our hearts with humility. Remain in us Holy Spirit, direct & help us in our lives, families, work, businesses, investments, relationships, marriages, spiritual growth, leadership, governance & all things. You ride forth victoriously in majesty Jesus, have mercy on us & shower us with Your divine graces for Your love for us is everlasting. Amen
