You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great. You enlarged my path under me, So my feet did not slip.
-Gentleness in Hebrew is written as anvah & it means meekness, tenderness, refinement, subtlety, finesse, softness, timidity, humility, pleasantness & calm. Gentleness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit which changes the character of men to gentlemen & women to virtuous women.
-The shield of Gods salvation acts as a shield to defend, safeguard & protect us from evil. His right hand holds us up & keeps us from falling into snares & mischiefs crafted for our downfall. His gentleness makes us great as it is written humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time (1 Pet 5:6). Gentleness changes our heart beat in rhythms of mildness & clemency; in turn God enlarges our paths as we dwell in His favour, grace & prosperity. Further, God strengthens our feet to walk steadily as He leads & comforts us in all we do.
Blessed be God, blessed be His holy name. We thank You Father & give You honour for Your goodness upon us. May the shield of Your salvation protect us, Your right hand uphold us, Your gentleness nurture us, Your grace enlarge our paths, Your love bring us closer to You. Amen
“I taught Ephraim to walk, Taking them by their arms; But they did not know that I healed them. I drew them with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them.
-Ephraim was the son of Joseph & from him came the tribe of Ephraim (Num 26:28). Ephraim was one of the twelve tribes of Israel & occupied the central part of Israel. Gods gentleness is clearly expressed by His acts of love upon the tribe of Ephraim but they did not fathom that God was with them. He led them by their arms as a father nature’s an infant & healed their wounds. They were preoccupied by the dictum of human reason that they failed to recognise Gods yarns of tenderness & ribbons of love embracing them. He released them from their oppression & gave them provision. Sometimes we are also submerged into our own personal assertions & self proclamation that we forget the gentle care that God has bestowed unto us. This happens mostly when life is running smoothly & pride slows infiltrates our hearts. In memory of Christ death & resurrection for our redemption, we should always humble ourselves & access His love & grace.
Lord our Father, we humbly come before You with humility in our hearts. We know that many times we have failed You in our ignorance & self proclamation, we ask for forgiveness. Lead us Your infants, in all we do & heal us from all pride & unforgiveness. Remove every yoke that binds us, our families, relatives, neighbours & nation. May Your gentle hand hold us fast in all things. Amen
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
-Gentleness is a virtue of peace & togetherness displayed by acts of love & humility. Not only by actions but also words that cause unity among all men. As king Solomon alleges; a soft answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger (Prov 15:1). Also that; by long forbearance a ruler is persuaded & a gentle tongue breaks a bone (Prov 25:15). In other words, when one has offended you & is gentle in words, it is very easy to forgive them. Also when one is gentle in nature & character, people of all classes find it easy to interact with them. A gentle tongue binds people together in love even at the wake of strife. By forbearance; we are reminded to bear & share one another’s burdens, consoling & comforting each other when in distress & correcting others with gentleness lest one is also tempted. By bearing others burden we exhibit love for neighbour thus fulfilling the law (Gal 6:1-2). God requires us to be humble at heart, in word & deed that we may be instruments of His peace.
Holy Spirit our Helper, instil in our hearts the fruit of gentleness that it may be manifest to all men. May the same gentle spirit aid us to tame our tongues & speak only that which is from Your kingdom. Help us also to exhibit true love for our neighbours in bearing one another’s burdens. May Your peace infiltrate our hearts & manifest in our nation that tribalism may not cause us pain. We bless You & lift Your name high, now & forever. Amen
1 Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
-A special message to the ladies by Apostle Peter, who focus on their outward appearance & forget inner beauty. He talks of outward adornment with neat hair, gold or pearls & costly clothing which should match the content in the heart. He alleges that a gentle & quiet spirit should be the main focus for these are pleasing in the eyes of the Lord. The same is echoed in 1 Tim 2:9-11, which proposes godliness, good works & submission; rooted from the script on the virtuous woman, who fears the Lord & is clothed in strength & honour. She takes proper care of her household in all gentleness, upholds wise words & her actions are worthy of praise (Prov 31:10-31).
We bless You & give You praise Abba Father; for there is non other like You. Your marvellous works of creation are beautiful in all perspectives. Among these are the beautiful women You created. Instil in all women a gentle & quiet spirit so that they may be stable in word & deed led by Your fear. May wisdom be their light as they take seriously their responsibilities. Bring them closer to You, accomplish their heart desires & fill them with Your love & grace. Amen
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
-Jesus reveals to us that He is gentle & lowly at heart. This gives us the courage to seek Him at any time & in any situation. It is also a call to believe in Him & learn from Him in obedience; our Teacher & Saviour. In Him we find peace & tranquillity for our souls when we are weary; as we cast all our cares unto Him & find rest.
-Gentleness in Hebrew is written as anvah & it means meekness, tenderness, timidity & humility. Gentleness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit which changes the character of men to gentlemen & women to virtuous women.
-Gentleness changes our nature & makes us humble & tender. Jesus said; blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth (Mat 5:5). In humility, He enlarges our paths as we dwell in His favour, grace & rest. He also protects us with His shield of salvation & His right hand holds us steadfast & keeps us from falling into snares of the evil one. In light with the script on the virtuous woman; Apostle Peter, enlightens ladies to focus more on the love of God which imparts in them a gentle & quiet spirit & not outward adornment. The fear of the Lord makes them strong, honourable, virtuous, gentle & wise in word & deed. Gentlemen alike are established in wisdom revealed in words & character. Paul also states that, long forbearance helps us bear & share one another’s burdens in consolation & comforting each other when in distress & correcting each others with gentleness lest we are tempted as well. Long forbearance is an act of gentleness which erupts when one forgives easily & expresses humility in all things. By bearing others burden we exhibit love for neighbour thus fulfilling the law (Gal 6:1-2). God requires us to be humble at heart, in word & deed that we may be instruments of His peace. Just like the tribe of Ephraim which did not fathom that God was with them, sometimes we are also submerged into our own personal assertions & self proclamation that we forget the gentle care that God has bestowed unto us. This happens mostly when life is running smoothly & pride slows infiltrates our hearts. God strengthens our feet to walk steadily & leads us in all we do. In humility, we should also remember to cast all our burdens unto Jesus for He cares for us & only in Him there is victory.
Holy Spirit our Lord, we humbly beseech You. Instil in our hearts the fruit of gentleness. Relieve us from the yokes we carry in form of bondages, afflictions, guilt of sin & others challenges we face so that our lives may be fulfilled. Remove any form of self proclamation which causes pride in our lives that Your tenderness may abide within us. You are gentle & lowly heart; hold us close to Your heart & lead is in all things. Amen
