THEME: LOOK AHEAD

Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

INSIGHT

–Each life is a race designed for a specific purpose. Unfortunately, most people have never discovered their purpose and therefore will never finish their course. The pilgrim’s life should be modelled through faith mirroring the lives of the heros of faith who ran their race and finished their course. We are called to look to Jesus and not focus on our troubles and challeges, mockers and the jealous, distraction and destruction. Jesus is our ultimate inspiration and goal, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who models how to endure suffering for a greater purpose.

SUMMARY

The theme look ahead stipulates future planning to anticipate what might happen and make plans. It also means focusing ahead and paying attention to what’s in front of us to stay safe and avoid foreseen shortcomings and unforeseen events through prayer. If we look ahead, we think about what is going to happen in the future and perhaps make plans for the future. Our limitations are however clear that many could be the plans in our hearts, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21). God reminds us to forget the former things and not dwell on the past, for He is doing a new thing (Isaiah 43:18-19). It is valuable then to forget what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. We need to press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). God requires that we look straight ahead, ensure that our eyelids look right before us and ponder the path of our feet and let all our ways be established. Not to turn to the right or the left but remove our feet from evil (Proverbs 4:25-27). Jesus cautions us from putting our hands to the plow and looking back which demolishes our fitness for service in His kingdom (Luke 9:62). We are called to look ahead and fight the good fight, finish the race and keep the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).  

PRAYER

We love You dear Lord Jesus, thank You for loving us first. We thank You and give You praise for You are good and Your mercies endures forever. May You forgive us all our sins and iniquities and cleanse us with Your precious blood. May You teach us never to turn aside from any of the words which You command us, to the right or the left to other gods and serve them. We look to You Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. We desire more and more of You dear Jesus, may You shape us daily in Your nature and image, of Christlikeness. Lord we thank You for the plans that You have for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future. May You bless us and make our cups overflow this year and beyond. Your blessings Lord makes us rich and adds no sorrow to it. Dear Lord Jesus may You meet all our needs according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Lord You are our Shepherd and there is nothing we shall lack. Lord You are able to bless us abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that we need, we will abound in every good work. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us now and forevermore. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives and we shall dwell in Your house Lord forever and ever. Amen
