THEME: ARISE AND SHINE

1 Samuel 16:12-13 NKJV

So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”

INSIGHT

Arise in Hebrew is qum which means stand up, establish, confirm, endure and fulfill, while shine in Hebrew is yapha which means to be the light, show oneself or cause to shine forth. God chose David to become the king of Israel, despite his outward appearance and humble position tending sheep. Samuel almost annointed his elder brother looking at his physical appearance, but God chose David for He looks at the heart. David diligently served as a king and fought many battles victorious including; defeating Goliath (1 Samuel 17), conquered the Philistines both before and after becoming king (1 Samuel 18, 2 Samuel 5, 8), consolidated his kingdom by capturing Jerusalem from the Jebusites (2 Samuel 5), his battles against the surrounding nations, like the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, and Arameans (2 Samuel 8, 10) and the civil war against his son Absalom (2 Samuel 18). David served his own generation by the will of God and died, and was buried with his fathers (Acts 13:36). He rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David (1 Kings 2:10). Today we celebrate many heros who have fought for our nation and have passed on. It is time for a new generation to arise and shine having the spirit of God upon them who enables His purposes to be fulfilled on the earth and leave a worthwhile legacy.

PRAYER

Dear God Jesus we thank You for this far that You have brought us and the far that You are taking us as a people and as a nation. Lord You are so good, we worship Your holy name. We cannot forget all the benefits that we have received from You. Thank You for the gift of life and good health that You have given us. May You heal all those who are sick and comfort those who are bereaved. Like king David Your servant who You anointed at a young age, amd he did Your will Lord and rested with his fathers, may You enable us Holy Spirit to accomplish the purposes for which You created us. We are Your handiwork, created in You Christ Jesus to do good works, which You prepared in advance for us to do. We need Your grace and guidance to accomplish every good work designed for us to do, including the new generation of leaders that You have chosen to rule in this nation. As creation awaits our revelation Lord, may You help us to achieve every good work and purpose for the glory and honor of Your name. Oh God of all creation, may You bless this our land and nation, may justice be our shield and defender, may we dwell in unity, peace and liberty, and may plenty be found within our borders. Amen

Blessed Mashujaa Day
