THEME: PROMISES OF GOD

1 John 2:24-25 NKJV

“Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.”

INSIGHT

–Abiding in Jesus Christ through faith and trusting in Him ensures that we hold fast to the true gospel is the fulfillment of God’s great promise which is eternal life. The promise of eternal life has already been delivered to those who believe in Jesus. The promise is not merely endless existence but living fellowship with God through Christ both now and forever.

SUMMARY

Promise in Hebrew is havtachah and epangelia in Greek which means a pledge, vow, assurance or covenant. God established His covenant with Abraham saying, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:2-3). Those who are of faith in Jesus Christ therefore are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:26-29) and partakers of this covenant. God established a covenant with Noah, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood nor a flood to destroy the earth. The sign of the covenant was a rainbow (Genesis 9:11-13). God has brought us near through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and we have been brought near together with our children since we were far off, in fulfillment of His promise (Acts 2:39). The Father has given us another Helper according to His promise, that He may abide with us forever (John 14:16-17).

PRAYER

We exalt You O God above the heavens and the earth. Let Your glory be above all the earth. Only You Lord are the most high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. Thank You for the promises that You have made for us and our children. Lord Jesus, You are not slack concerning Your promise, as some count slackness, but You longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. May You grant each household the gift of salvation through faith in You Jesus Christ. May You grant us and all people Your gift of eternal life dear Jesus, that we may resurrect in the Day of You Lord. We contend for every promise today asking that You may fulfill them all according to Your great faithfulness. Thank You Holy Spirit for dwelling with us and in us. Thank You precious Holy Spirit for loving us, choosing us and ordaining us for the work and purpose that You have ordained for us. We are more than victorious by Your precious blood and the word of our testimony. Dear Lord Jesus may You do exceedingly abundantly more than we can ask of or think of according to the power that is at work in us. Lord we trust in You and exalt You. We believe that You are able to do more than we can think of or imagine. We believe that we shall be extremely fruitful since we abide in You and You in us. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives and we shall dwell in Your house forever. May You bless us and keep us loving Father, may You shine Your face upon us and be gracious to us. May You lift up Your countenance towards us and give us peace. Amen
