THEME: DIVINE ESTABLISHMENT

Ephesians 2:19-22 NKJV

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”

INSIGHT

Apostle Paul reminds Ephesians, Gentile believers they are no longer outsiders but fully included in God’s family. The church is pictured as a building, with Christ as the cornerstone who the builders rejected holds everything together. Every believer is a stone in this spiritual temple, united for the purpose of being a dwelling place for God through the Spirit. Each believer is then the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in us (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are then established in the Holy Spirit and should be in constant fellowship with Him.

SUMMARY

Establish in Greek is written a stērizō and Hebrew is qum which means to fix, strengthen, set firmly, to lay a foundation or ground, to arise, stand, establish and confirm. Divine is related to God and the attributes of God. First divine establishment is the God’s concept of blessing the work of our hands, in our work, businesses and everything that pertains to it (Psalms 90:17). Secondly, God established His covenant with David and his descendants in building a house in His name and establish the throne of his kingdom forever (2 Samuel 7:12-13). God has established us as His children through the Davidic covenant building believers as kings and priests to Him. Thirdly, God establishes the righteous and protects us from oppression, fear and terror (Isaiah 54:14). Finally, God establishes those who receive Christ in faith, that we should walk with Him and abound in thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7).
