Genesis 44:16 Then Judah said, “What shall we say to my lord? What shall we speak? Or how shall we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants; here we are, my lord’s slaves, both we and he also with whom the cup was found.”

INSIGHT: -In Hebrew, slave is written as ebed & it means bondservant, attendant

-Joseph’s cup a symbol of authority was found in Benjamin’s sack which meant slavery in Egypt as punishment. His brother Judah was willing to take his place, by taking his plight/ iniquity from him, a picture of Jesus Who gave His cup/ Himself for the remission of our sins. Later on they were given new garments as Christ was crowned with authority.

PRAYER: We thank You Father, for Your love & compulsion for us. As we start a new week may You cleanse us from our sins & may Your saving hand lead us out of any difficulty that we face in our lives & families. Amen

2 Kings 4:1 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

INSIGHT -A widow was in debt & Elisha helped her multiply the oil she had to redeem her sons from impending slavery. Human slavery was common among men & women during that time especially when one became poor & they would be redeemed in the year of Jubilee (Lev 25:39-42/ Exod 21:7).

PRAYER: Great is Your faithfulness Father, may You hear our prayers & supplications & fulfil the deepest desires of our hearts. Amen

Romans 6:15-18  Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

INSIGHT: -We were slaves to sin through the weakness of flesh but became slaves to righteousness through Christ. We are called to righteousness through renewal of the mind; which is mental slavery, so that we can avoid perpetual sins. Grace is upheld in righteousness much more in His obedience through Christ our Lord.

PRAYER: We are perfected through obedience in Your word & righteousness in You Father. Cleanse & strengthen us to abide in You as You abide is us which is life. We thank You for this far You have taken us & for Your everlasting love for us. Amen

Galatians 3:27-29 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

INSIGHT: -Jesus was in the lineage of Abraham & we are Abrahams descendents thus heirs/ sons of God. For we were baptized in Christ; we all became equal in Him disregarding citizenship, social class & gender. We belong to Christ & joint heirs with Him.

PRAYER: Bind us together in Your peace, love & unity, Father as we await the general elections. Unite the whole world so that we may share in Your love for we belong to You & are Your sons. Amen

Mark 10:43-45 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
INSIGHT: -James 4:10, Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

-It is prudent to humble ourselves & accept to serve others Just like Jesus & He will lift us up.

SUMMARY: -Judah was willing to become a slave on behalf of Benjamin his brother/ The widows sons were saved by Elisha from impeding slavery by her creditors/ we were set free from sin by Jesus & became slaves of righteousness/ we were baptised into Christ, made equal in Him & thus His sons/ we should desire humility more than greatness so that God may lift us up.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord Jesus for making us free from sin. May we dwell in Your righteousness & truth all the time through Your guidance. We humbly ask You to journey with us throughout the lives. Amen
Our Father who at in heaven, Hallowed be thy name…
