Psalm 91:9-12

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge, and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

INSIGHT

-The Hebrew word for angel is malak which means messenger or envoy. Angels are spiritual beings that have different ranks, significance and functions. One of the functions is that, angels offer protection to God’s elect and minister to those who trust in the Lord. From the time of Moses, we see them perform these functions as instructed by God. Exodus 23:20 reveals that, “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” There are angels who are assigned to defend us and protect us from danger. From the beginning, we see that Archangel Michael led other angels in driving out Lucifer and other fallen angels from heaven when they rebelled against God (Revelation 12:7-9). Angels of war are therefore instrumental in our lives as they guide us to the place prepared for us before the foundations of the earth. God loves us so much that He sends His angels to guard, guide and protect us through various stages of our life. Although we may not immediately know or see that angels are around us, they are there at God’s direction and working to assist us in this live and the next.

PRAYER

Lord You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness, we adore You are glorify Your holy name. Only You are Holy, only You are Good and deserve to be glorified and praised. May You wash us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness we humbly beseech You merciful Savior. You are our Salvation and Shield, our Refuge and Strength, Our Lord and Savior. We adore You and praise Your holy name. Thank you for sending Your angels to protect us and govern us from harm even as we sleep at night. May You always deploy Your angels to guard us in all our ways and lift us up in their hands, lest we strike our feet against a stone. Thank You Jesus for loving us and for taking good care of us. We count our blessings and name them one by one. Guide us dear Jesus in all that we do for the glory of Your name. Lead us according to Your divine purposes this entire week for the glory and honor of Your name. We pray for all those who are sick in hospital and at home that You may heal them and restore them. We pray for those who are lost that You may restore them back to Yourself our loving Savior. We pray for all the street children that Your hand of mercy may reunite them with their parents, guardians and everyone else that You have appointed. We pray for our nation Kenya, that Your will may done in this beautiful nation. We pray for the new prime minister of Israel that You may grant him wisdom as he leads the people of Israel. May Your peace always be found in this nation, our nation and all the nations of the world. All glory, honor, power and praise belongs to You Jesus, now and forever. Amen

Luke 1:19-20

“The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

INSIGHT

-Apart from offering guidance and protection, angels are also messengers of God. Angel Gabriel is considered the chief Archangel who delivers messages to God’s people. The name Gabriel means, God is my hero and mighty man of God. Angel Gabriel appeared to Zachariah as he performed his priestly duties to keep incense burning; from of the Most Holy place. Zachariah and Elizabeth were of a priestly descent from the line of Aaron and the Lord heard their prayers. Elizabeth was barren and had waiting long for a child. The Lord answered their prayers and at their appointed time John was born. Mary the mother of Jesus also encountered angel Gabriel when the news about her child birth was announced. In Acts chapter 10 we also see a devote man Cornelius who encountered an angel who brought the message of salvation to his house.

Revelation 5:11-12

“Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

INSIGHT

-A large multitude of angels and living creatures probably saints, not possible to comprehend all; are found worshipping the Lord at His throne. The twenty four elders also enjoin them in worship and praise. Revelation 4:8 reveals an innumerable company of angels encircling the throne of God, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come.” The Lord has made worship to be an integral part of our being. It is a core reason why we exist. Colossians 2:18 reveal that some among us have misconceptions and go ahead to worship angels, intruding into those things they have not seen and vainly puffed up by their fleshly mind. God is Sovereign and calls us to worship Him alone, for only He deserves all the honor and worship.

PRAYER

Holy, holy, holy are You Lord God Almighty, Who was; Who is and Who is to come. Lord our God, how majestic is Your name in all the earth. All the earth is full of Your glory. All the heavens are filled with Your glorious splendor. All the angels worship and give You praise. All the saints and the twenty four elder acknowledge that You are the King of glory. We exalt You and enthrone You for You are worthy of all praise, glory and honor. We join the twenty four elders, the seraphim and saints today in proclaiming that You are holy and highly lifted up. There is none that can compare to You in heaven and on earth. We adore You today and worship You. Every knee should bow in heaven, on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ; You are our Lord and God, to the glory of God the Father. Let everything that has breath praise You our Lord and God. We adore You and glorify Your holy name. Our mouths will always speak in praise of Your holy name Lord. Let all the creatures praise Your holy name for ever and ever. Only You Lord deserve to be worshipped and glorified. Thank You for loving us Father. Teach us how to love You and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Teach us how to love our enemies. Teach us how to forgive all those who offend us dear Jesus, as You forgive our trespasses too. Teach our hearts how to worship You and thank You at all times. May You fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit and guide us in all we do. Open every closed door dear Jesus and prosper us in all our ways. Answer all our prayers and hearts desires dear Jesus. We praise You and glorify Your holy name, now and forever. Amen

Matthew 13:36-39

“Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.” He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.”

INSIGHT

-Several parables have been outlined to describe the nature of the kingdom of God. According to the parable, while Jesus is spreading good seeds of His gospel to His people, the devil is busy scattering bad seeds. It is therefore a time to watch for the tares grow among the wheat. 1 John 2:18 tells us that; many antichrists have come for this is the last hour. The message spread by the antichrist is clear that Jesus Christ did not come in the flesh (2 John 1:7). The angelic hosts will be tasked to separate the wheat from the tares. The wheat are the children of God who believe in Jesus Christ and have the gift of salvation while the tares are the children of the wicked one who do not believe in Jesus and practice lawlessness. The children of God will be secured in His kingdom and shine forever while the children of the wicked one will be thrown into the furnace of fire where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. The angels will therefore be actively involved in the final judgment headed by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It is therefore important to believe in Jesus Christ and His gospel, repent and hold fast our faith in Him who gives us the gift of salvation.

PRAYER

We thank You Lord Almighty Father, the Author and Finisher of our faith. We praise You and adore You for who You are and what You have done unto us. You have always been faithful even when we have become faithless. We thank You and exult Your holy name. Many are the plans in a mans heart but You Lord ordain His steps. Ordain our steps merciful Savior and make our paths straight. Heal our wounds and anoint us afresh Holy Spirit. Be with all those who have hardened their hearts to Your gospel, that You may give them hearts of flesh and fill them with the gift of salvation merciful Savior. We shall not die but live to declare Your goodness Lord our God. We shall always enjoy Your presence Lord in Your kingdom. Your goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives and we shall dwell in Your house forever. Thank You Jesus for Your merciful love upon us. Remember all those who are jobless and are waiting for You for job opportunities. Be with all those who are in business and those who are employed that You may widen their spectrum and bless the work of their hands. Remember with mercy Savior all those who are waiting on You for spouses that You may settle them in families. Heal all those who are sick merciful Savior. Be will all those who are in prison and grant their hearts desires. Remember all those who are homeless that You may settle them according to Your will. We are more that conquerors in You Jesus. No weapon fashioned against us shall prosper and very tongue raised against us in condemned in You name Jesus. Remove every accusation against us in the heavenly places by You blood Jesus. Our Father who art in heaven; hallowed be Your name; Your Kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptations but deliver us from evil; for thine is the Kingdom the power and the glory; forever and ever. Amen

Hebrews 1:14

“Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”

INSIGHT

-Angels are also valuable in ministering to God’s beloved. After Jesus was tempted by the devil, angels came and ministered to Him (Matthew 4:11). They stand before God in His earthly sanctuary and do service to God for the sake of those who will inherit salvation.

SUMMARY

Angels are immortal spiritual beings which were created by God to perform several functions that we cannot exhaust in this thematic exposition. Firstly, angels convey messages to God’s people. Archangel Gabriel is the chief messenger as we have seen in Luke 1:11-39. They also offer us protection (Psalms 91:11; Acts 27:23-25), and combat evil (Revelation 12:7). They serve God by performing His will at His direction (Numbers 22:21-35). They also praise God in multitudes Revelation 5:11-12 and rejoice when sinners come to repentance. They will be involved in carrying out God’s judgments and will separate the righteous from the wicked (2 Kings 19:35; Matthew 13:24-30). Lastly, they are instrumental in encouraging us God’s saints (Luke 22:43). Some have misconceptions and go ahead to worship angels; looking to them as mediators between God and man. We should note that there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).

PRAYER

We give thanks to You Lord our God for You are good and Your love endures forever. None can compare to You Jesus, we exult You and praise Your holy name. As we continually offer to You a sacrifice of praise, may we always please You with the fruit of our lips. Guide us always in the way we should go and make all our paths straight. May You always send Your angels dear Father to minister unto us; Your children, according to Your will. May You always hear us and answer us according to Your will. May You hear our hearts desires and answer us dear Jesus. All glory, honor, power and praise belongs to You Jesus, now and forever. Amen
