THEME: DUTY OF MAN
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
INSIGHT
-King Solomon the author of this book, having been adorned with wisdom came to an interesting conclusion, to define the purpose of all mankind. As a king, he had it all, wisdom, wealth, fame, women, power, but came to the realization that all is vanity. In the first verse of Ecclesiastes 12, we see an exhortation to the youth who are called to remember the Creator, and avoid the pleasures that are natural during this age. Before one knows it, age has started catching up and the body becomes frail day by day. The last verse of Ecclesiastes 12, reveals of the judgement that will be pegged on our deeds whether hidden or visible, good or evil. Therefore the call to remain in the fear of God, and to keep His commandments, which is the foundation of wisdom (Proverbs 1:7). To fear God is an inward worship, reverence, love, trust and devotedness of heart to serve and please God and keep His commandments, which is the evidence of true and genuine fear of God. To keep God’s commandments is not burdensome and demonstrates the love of God (1 John 5:3). Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets, and summarize the law into love. If then we believe in Jesus and accept Him into our lives, He empowers us to keep His commandments and fear Him through the help of the Holy Spirit.
