THEME: GIFT OF SALVATION
John 3:16-18
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
INSIGHT
-Salvation in Hebrew is written as yasa which means to save, help in distress, rescue, deliver and set free. Salvation is a gift from God and is also the nature of God to save. John 3:16 is probably the most common part of scripture that some of us were trained in as we grew up. It actually forms the foundation of our Christian faith, that Jesus Christ who knew no sin became sin for us, so that we may become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21). For it is through the sin of one man Adam that sin entered the world, and death through sin, therefore death came to all people because all sinned (Romans 5:12). God gave us the gift of salvation which is not like the trespass. For if many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many (Romans 5:15). God demonstrated great love for us that when we were still sinners Christ died for us. It is then through faith that we have been justified in Jesus Christ, and we have been called to believe in Him.
