THEME: WINNING WITHOUT FIGHTING

Genesis 24:40-44

“He replied, ‘The Lord, before whom I have walked faithfully, will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father’s family. You will be released from my oath if, when you go to my clan, they refuse to give her to you—then you will be released from my oath. When I came to the spring today, I said, ‘Lord, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come. See, I am standing beside this spring. If a young woman comes out to draw water and I say to her, “Please let me drink a little water from your jar, and if she says to me, “Drink, and I’ll draw water for your camels too,” let her be the one the Lord has chosen for my master’s son.’’

INSIGHT

-This chapter exposes an anecdote of the marriage between Isaac and Rebekah. This is a tale of divine connection which describes what the Lord can do to those who faithfully revere Him. Abraham sent his senior servant to Nahor, probably Eliezer of Damascus; under oath with a mission to get a wife for his son Isaac. Abraham prayed that the Lord will send his angels before him and prosper his ways. When his servant reached the well at Nahor, he prayed and a beautiful virgin appeared to fetch water. Rebekah was kind to him. She gave him water in a jar to drink, watered his camels and gave him room to spend the night. Probably Isaac had prayed for a spouse for long, and especially now that his mother Sarah had passed on. Likewise, Rebekah could have been praying for a husband, given that she was ready to leave her fathers house even after her opinion to stay on for a month was necessary. Many among us are waiting on the Lord for spouses. Some are almost getting married and others are hopeful. Some have prayed for long and have lost hope envisioning no possibility of getting married and marrying. Like the Lord supernaturally made a way for Isaac and Rebekah, He will make a way for all those wait on Him at His beautiful time.
