THEME: MURMURING AND COMPLAINING

Numbers 16:1-3

Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—became insolent and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council. They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?

INSIGHT

-The Israelites continued to grumble and complain at Moses for bringing them to the wilderness where they suffered. Moses cautioned they saying that they were not complaining to him but they put the Lord to test (Exodus 17:2). Korah rebelled against Moses and Aaron along with other co-conspirators and were punished for their rebellion. The Lord caused the ground to split open beneath their feet swallowing them, their families, anyone associated with them, and all their possessions. God also smote 14,700 men with plague, as punishment for objecting to Korah’s destruction. We notice that murmuring and complaining brings forth God’s punishment. Murmuring and complaining is caused by anger and the cautions us from getting angry which leads to evil (Psalms 37:8). Complaining does not make anything better but everything worse. We also notice that one of the greatest tragedy of man is to fail to appreciate the goodness of God but keep complaining. Murmuring and complaining could be the one of the reasons why God allowed COVID-19 to come to the earth. Complaining is a remedy for disaster and we are reminded to give thanks to God and praise Him in all circumstances.
