THEME: REJOICE IN THE LORD
Thessalonians 2:19-20
“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy.”
INSIGHT
-We have more reason to stand fast in the Lord through rejoicing with the hope of glory. Having been promised crowns that can be described as either crowns of achievement or stephanos like the ones given to an athlete; who has won the race, or the ones given to kings or diadems. The crown of rejoicing falls under the later class for it is through faith that we have been saved and not by our own works lest anyone should boast. Other crowns include:- crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8), Incorruptible crown (1 Corinthians 9:25), crown of life (James 1:12) and crownof glory (1 Peter 5:2-4). We are then called to rejoice in the Lord for He is ever present with us and He has won victory for us. At His second coming, we shall see Him just as He is and He shall reward us with the crown of rejoicing for His love for us endures forever. He shall wipe away all tears from our eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things shall pass away (Revelation 21:4). Let us then not loose hope in life but hold fast our trust in the Lord as we focus our eyes on the things above and not on the things below. Let us also walk as Jesus walked, as we rejoice in Him always, pray without ceasing and in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will through Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
