THEME: DEMON

Ephesians 6:12‭-‬18 ‬‬‬‬‬

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

INSIGHT
-We find that our struggles are more spiritual than physical. For we war against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Satan being a master counterfeiter, poses as the angel of light and somehow mimics the hierarchy of Gods’ realm, giving demons the aforesaid positions. Apostle Paul uses imagery to explain how we ought to win the ever present spiritual warfare. He discloses both offensive and defensive weapons which are essential for this course using an image of a soldier’s outfit and armory. Offensive weapons are displayed as prayer and the word of God, while defensive are truth, righteousness, peace, faith and salvation. We are called to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the snares of demonic forces. These weapons are designed to destroy the darts of the enemy, which is a proactive warfare rather than reactive. Key to such warfare is to recon ourselves as dead to sin and alive in Christ Jesus. We are called to stand firm in truth. We know that the belt is vital for soldiers to secure their weapons. This belt defends us against lies propagated through the world systems which seduce us to exchange our lives with those things which are fleeting. The word of God provides the ultimate truth for our spiritual uprightness that we may have eternal life with Him. The breastplate of righteousness which was imputed to us by Christ and conforms us to His image as we walk with Him. Sandals enabled the soldiers to hold their ground and walk effectively. The peace of Christ (shalom); then enables us to have the right relationship with God and with man. This brings us to submission to Gods’ purpose which enables us to have strength in our hearts and souls as we love God and our neighbours. Likewise; the shield as used by soldiers locked together to prevent the missiles from harming them; as a unit. This is the unity as believers; joined together in the body of Christ through faith; Who is the source of all power and strength. The helmet of salvation guards our minds from evil thoughts. We are called to set our minds on things which are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Phil 4:8). The word of God which is Christ Himself gives us faith, love and wisdom to walk according to His will through the help of the Holy Spirit. The imagery of the Word of God is the sword of the Spirit. We know that a sword cannot do much when the bearer does not know how to use it. We as spiritual disciples; require to read the Word of God and use it always even when we are tempted. Jesus; when He was tempted used Biblical scriptures to overcome the snares of the devil. Finally, to overcome the temptations of the devil, we are called to pray without ceasing and when we do not know how to pray; the Holy Spirit intercedes for us.

PRAYER
May Your presence Lord always be with us and our families everywhere we go. Intercede for us Holy Spirit when we do not know how to pray and grant us peace. Cover us with Your precious blood Jesus and deliver us from the snares of the enemy. Guide us in all our decisions and actions Lord and grant us Your whole armor, that we may forever stand in Your presence. There is no other God but Jesus; we give You all the glory and praise. Amen

Blessed Wednesday
