THEME: OBEDIENCE TO GOD
John 14:31 NIV
“but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.”
INSIGHT
–Jesus the Son of God obeyed the Father and learned obedience from what he suffered and once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:8-10). We are called to follow God’s voice at whatever cost as we emulate the example of Jesus Christ.
SUMMARY
Obedience to God’s law has always been a sign identifying His people. Though people have always fallen short of perfect obedience, God sent Jesus, His Son, as the perfect obedient sacrifice for our shortcomings. Now, those who have faith in God obey His commands not to earn salvation that has been provided in Jesus, but because we love Him, and not by our works but by His grace through faith. Abraham the father of faith was tested by God and instructed to go to the land of Moriah and to offer him there as a burnt offering. Abraham did not ask questions but rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son and went to the place of which God had told him (Genesis 22:1-3). Abraham demonstrated great faith in God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. In contrast Jonah was instructed to go to Nineveh for the wickedness of the city was so great but took a detour to Tarshish from God’s presence (Jonah 1:1-3). He was eventually swallowed by big fish and later went to Nineveh as instructed by God. We have been called to diligently obey the voice of the Lord our God, to observe carefully all His commandments which we have been command. The Lord promises to set us high above all nations of the earth and bestore His blessings upon us that will overtake us all these blessings shall come upon us and overtake us for obey the voice of the Lord our God (Deuteronomy 28:1-2) and the Lord will make us prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8).
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus we worship Your holy name. None can be likened to You. At the mention of Your name, every knee shall bow in heaven on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus You are Lord to the glory of God the Father. May You reveal Your glorious and heavenly vision to our hearts and grant us the grace to follow it with unwavering and faithful obedience that marked the life of Apostle Paul. Dear Heavenly Father we thank You for Your divine purpose that You have placed in our lives. May You open our eyes to see Your heavenly vision and grant us the wisdom and strength to pursue it faithfully. May You transform our hearts so we may abide in You and obey Your will with courage and grace. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen
