THEME: REBELLION

1 Samuel 15:22-23 NKJV

“So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”

INSIGHT

-Samuel charges Saul over rebellion against God by violating the central requirement of the covenant condition given to him when he became king (1 Samuel 12:14-15). King Saul went to war with the Amalekites and was instructed to destroy everything and everyone. He disobeyed and spared king Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them (1 Samuel 15:9). Saul had saved the best of the livestock for sacrifice to the Lord. Samuel did not suggest that sacrifice is unimportant but that it is acceptable only when brought with an attitude of obedience and devotion to the Lord. Saul was to be dethroned but this did not happen immediately. First, the Holy Spirit and God’s favor left him (1 Samuel 16:14). His son Jonathan and daughter Michal defected to David (1 Samuel 18:1-4, 19:11-17). Further, the insubordination of his own officials (1 Samuel 22:17). God is calling us to take heed to His voice and instructions without wavering and we will continously enjoy the presence, favor and blessings.

PRAYER

We give thanks to You Lord our God for You are good and Your mercies endures forever. We give thanks to You our Lord our Savior and King for You are Faithful and Your faithfulness is everlasting. We give thanks to You Lord our Maker and Protector for Your power is unending. We give thanks to You Abba Father, for Your love endures forever. You are highly lifted up in all the heavens and all the earth. Dear Lord Jesus may You teach us to seek first Your kingdom and righteousness and all other things You will add unto us. May You give us hearts of flesh that we may be obedient to Your will and Your voice always. May You fill us with the Spirit of the fear of the Lord that we may choose obedience over sacrifice. We thank You for the victory that You have continously given us, even by dying on the cross for our sins and resurrecting from the grave. May You forgive us all our sins and wash us with Your precious blood. May You set us from all issues that we face in life, family, business, churches, government and nation. May You set us free from failure, delay, pain, lack, disease, shame, condemnation, oppression and confusion. May Your peace that surpsasses all understanding reign in our hearts. We honor You dear Lord Jesus and give You praise now and forever. Amen
