Exodus 7:18 And the fish that are in the river shall die, the river shall stink, and the Egyptians will loathe to drink the water of the river.”
INSIGHT: -In Hebrew fish is written as dag & fishing was one the biggest economic activities in Jerusalem & Egypt.
-Num 11:5, We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;
-This was the first plague where water changed to blood. The pride of Egypt being fishing & all forms of food supply was cut short, but Pharaoh could not let the people go. After the Jews were released from captivity, they complained of lack of fish which was one of their main delicacies.
PRAYER: May we be led by You Holy Spirit; in all things, so that we can always trust in You. Your presence is all we need. Amen
Job 12:7-8 “But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you; Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you.
INSIGHT: -Job praised God despite his predicament explaining God’s magnificence evident in His creation. Job brought out one characteristic of fish; that is, highly adaptive to its environment due to its unique sensory system.
PRAYER: We give You all glory & praise Father, for taking good care of us. May our way of life exhibit Your wisdom through Your divine will. Amen
Jonah 2:1-2 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fish’s belly. And he said: “I cried out to the Lord because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.
INSIGHT: -The Lord sent a fish to ferry Jonah after his disobedience to Nineveh where most people were fishermen. Jonah compares the fish belly to hell & thanks God for saving him.
PRAYER: May we always be inclined to You Father, despite our well being & sense of security. Help us to always humble ourselves & be obedient to You. Amen
Luke 5:9-11 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.
INSIGHT: -Simon, James & John had toiled all night without success as they caught no fish. Jesus instructed Simon to cast his nets into the lake but Simon cast a net & it was breaking due to the great harvest. From then henceforth; they forsook all & followed Christ.
PRAYER: Lord our Father, we surrender our lives to You. We pray that our lives may be inclined to thee alone & forsake all that is not of Your kingdom. Amen
Matthew 17:25-27 He said, “Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?” Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”
INSIGHT: -Sons of kings of the land were not obligated to pay tax. Jesus paid tax through fish demonstrating that sons of God are free. In His miracle, Jesus proved that Spiritual principles dominate artificial laws.
SUMMARY: -The first plague destroyed all the fish which was the main delicacy in Egypt/ Job explains the magnifice of God’s creation despite his calamity/ Jonah was swallowed by a fish after disobeying God was ferryed to Neneveh where they valued fish, thus he was highly respected & heard/ Simon, James & John went fishing all night but did not harvest any fish. Jesus instructed Simon to cast his net in the lake & he caught multitudes of fish. Later they were made apostles.
PRAYER: May our hearts be inclined to You with love, Father so that we may exhibit true discipleship. You are our helper & provider may we never lack any good thing. Lead us in Your wisdom & freedom through Your tender mercies. Amen
