THEME: HUMILITY BEFORE GOD
2 Corinthians 8:9 NKJV
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”
INSIGHT
–Jesus demostrated true humility when He went on the cross and died for our sins. He did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men, and being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:6-8).
SUMMARY
Humility in Greek is written as tapeinophrosunē and anavah in Hebrew which means to be meek and gentle. The Bible tells us in Matthew 23:12 that whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. The Lord requires that, we humble ourselves with a broken spirit and a broken and a contrite heart for these He will not despise (Psalms 51:17). God calls us to be completely humble and gentle, patient, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2). He guides the humble in justice and teaches them His way (Psalms 25:9). Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, took a javelin in his hand; and thrusted it through Zimri and Kozbi who had committed an abormination before the Lord through sexual immorality and adultery where twenty four Israelites died. He was granted a covenant of peace to him and his descendants after him, an everlasting priesthood (Numbers 25:7-13). We are reminded that, when pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom (Proverbs 11:2). Further, that the greatest among us is the servant, for those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted (Matthew 23:11-12). The Lord calls us to have humility and the fear of the Lord and He grants us riches and honor and life (Proverbs 22:4). Finally, the Lord takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with victory (Psalms 149:4).
PRAYER
Abba Father our Father, You are the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last, our Father Almighty. You are the same yesterday, today and forever. You are our Lord and God, we worship You. We come to You with humble adoration asking You to forgive us and cleanse us with Your precious blood. May You guide us in Your truth and righteousness. May You provide all our needs according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus. May You bless us and keep us, may You make Your face to shine upon us and be gracious to us, may You shine Your countenance towards us and grant us peace. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us now and forevermore. Amen
