Genesis 11:6 NIV

The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.“

INSIGHT

Unity in prayer is key in every Christian family or community. When the community decided to build the Tower of Babel and spoke one language, whatever they decided to do was not withheld or hindered from them. In the same breath, when a people humble themselves and unite in prayer before the Lord and pray for a certain matter, the Lord responds. A family or group that prays together, their prayers are not only heard but they remain in the spirit until God’s word is performed. We are exhorted to join together in prayer and seek the face of the Lord and we will receive our responses according to His merciful love.

1 Timothy 2:1 NIV

”I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—“

INSIGHT

Prayer and spiritual backup is vital for all people. The letter of Paul to Timothy encourages believers to pray for everyone in all kinds of prayer, petitions, intercession and thanksgiving. He also points out that prayers should be made specially to kings and those in authority. During that time, the notorious Roman emperor Nero was in power when Paul wrote this letter. There is therefore need to pray for leaders in the government, communities, churches, and families that the Lord may grant them the wisdom to rule and guide the people according to His purposes. It is also vital to pray for everyone some of whom may be undergoing various trials and tribulations that the Lord may strengthen them, deliver them, and grant them peace.

PRAYER

We shall greatly rejoice in You Lord and exult You, for You have clothed us with the garments of salvation and covered us with the robe of righteousness. Lord You make the path of life known to us and in Your presence there is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. We count it all joy when we fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of our faith produces patience which should have its perfect work that we may be perfect and complete lacking nothing. May You grant us wisdom where we are lacking and answer all our prayers. We repent for every sin, iniquity and transgression that we have committed and ask for Your mercy and grace in Your blood loving Savior. We remember all those who are sick and suffering that You may manifest Yourself to them and grant them grace. We seek Your peace in all sectors of our economy, leadership, nation and peace for all nations of the world dear Lord Jesus. We pray this believing and trusting in Jesus mighty name. Amen

1 Samuel 7:5-12 NKJV

”And Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.” So they gathered together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before the Lord. And they fasted that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah. Now when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah, the Lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines. So the children of Israel said to Samuel, “Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.” And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. Now as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the Lord thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel. And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and drove them back as far as below Beth Car. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

INSIGHT

Samuel was called to be a priest at a relatively young age. During his inception days in office, Israel went to war against the Philistines and four thousand Israel soldiers were killed in the conquest and the ark of the covenant was captured. After these events Eli the former priest and his two sons died and Samuel took full responsibility as priest in Israel. Samuel then requested the Israelites to put away their idols and worship God alone. Samuel offered a sacrifice to the Lord and prayed for the Israelites and they regained their victory and conquered the Philistines. We are called to seek God mercy in prayer and put away all the idols in our lives and nation, and we will obtain victory in every battle for the glory and honor of God’s name.

PRAYER

Dear Lord we come before You this day. We adore and worship You. You are great and greatly to be praised. Lord there is none like You in all the earth and the heavens. Thank You Jesus for all You have done for us, thank You for Your love, mercies, kindness and goodness. Lord may You have Your way in our lives. We surrender unto You all and put our will down and take up Your will for our lives. May You forgive us for the sins and iniquity we have done for every form of idolatry in our lives and lineages. May You purify us and cleanse us by Your precious blood Lord. May You remove all unforgivness from our hearts and save us. We humbly pray that You may fill us with Your precious Holy Spirit and enable us to travail in prayer and seek You deeper just as Samuel did on behalf of the Israelites. Oh Holy Spirit teach us how to pray and what to pray for. Father, You are the God of all victory, for all victory belongs to You Jesus. May You fight for us all our battles and give us victory over all our adversary. May You lift our head from the miry clay and exalt us that many may see and praise You oh Lord for it is You who has done this and all the glory belongs to You. We trust in You Lord that You have heard us and we thank You for You will do it, we pray this in Jesus Mighty name, Amen.

Acts 1:12-15 NIV

”Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)“

John 17:20-22 NKJV

”I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:“

INSIGHT

Jesus prayed that the unity of believers in the Father and the Son might be perfect, it was needful that even the glory which Christ possessed by the Father’s gift should be perfected in His people.

SUMMARY

Unity in prayer is a vital strategy for winning any contest. The Bible tells us that where two agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by our Father in heaven for God is with us (Matthew 18:19-20). The apostles gathered in the upper room to pray constantly with other disciples. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and witnessed the ascension of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:12-15). They were filled with power and witnessed Christ to other cities. When people are united as one, speak one language and pray in one accord, whatever they decide to do, it shall be done for them (Genesis 11:6). Samuel congregated all Israel at Mizpah they fasted and prayed. Samuel offered a sacrifice on their behalf and they defeated the Philistines (1 Samuel 7:5-12). All things are possible with prayer, and especially when people unite together in prayer.

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus may You fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit. May You unite us together in the same mind and one purpose in You Christ Jesus. May Your purposes come to pass in our lives, families, work and nation as You please. May Your protect us from the flood and from evil men whose intentions are destructive. May You cover us with Your precious blood and hide us from every harm. May You forgive us all our sins and iniquities, and remove any accusation against us in the courts of heaven. May You grant our nation prosperity and bless our land. May You answer all our prayers dear Lord Jesus and respond to our hearts desires. May You bless us and keep us dear Lord Jesus. May You shine Your face towards us and be gracious unto us. May You show Your countenance unto us and give us peace. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us now and forevermore. Amen
