John 19:39-40
And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.
INSIGHT
-Myrrh was useful for purification ritual, making holy anointing oil, perfumes & medicine/ used for anointing the tabanacle, altars, utensils & priests/ represented Jesus’ priesthood & suffering/ was used in burial rites according to the Jewish customs.
-Jesus’ beginning & end was an affirmation of priesthood as myrrh was involved. He was born of a virgin & buried in a virgin tomb. Nicodemus’ belief system (faith) in God was increased after asking Jesus how can he be born again in John 3. Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word (Eph 5:25-26).
PRAYER
Cleanse us from all our iniquities & purify our hearts from all evil; Father our High Priest. Increase our faith in God & may Your Word become manifest in our lives as we walk according to Your instructions. Amen
