THEME: COURAGE AND FAITH

Numbers 14:6-9 NIV

Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”

INSIGHT

Faith and courage in the Lord are indispensible in the life of a believer. A Christian cannot claim to have faith in God but live in fear. The Lord instructed Moses to send twelve spies to the land of Cannan according to the tribes of Israel. As they explored the land, the spies found fortified cities and giants from the tribe of Anak, the Nephilim, and they seem like grasshoppers to them. They also found grape fruits and professed that the land was flowing with milk and honey. The ten spies brought a negative report but Joshua and Caleb brought a good report. They did not focus in the giants but on the faithfulness of the Lord and therefore God did not destroy them but granted them access to the promised land. We are called to have faith in God even though we are surrounded by giants. For us to take new territories and be victorious this year, we need to have courage and faith in God. Even though we are faced with circumstances that look like giants in our lives, families and nation, let us always remember that we did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15), and we shall be triumpant over all by the grace of God.
