FIG TREE

Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

INSIGHT -The fig tree is among the 3 mentioned trees in Genesis. -It was very popular among the Jews & other communities in both the old & new testament. -In Genesis 3:21,God made tunics of skin, for Adam & Eve and clothed them. -After Adam & Eve disobeyed God & ate the fruit of knowledge of good & evil, they made themselves covering from fig trees instead of seeking God who made them skin tunics later. -The fig tree in this passage symbolizes clothing & a shortcut to cover up sins.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I thank for waking me up to start a new week. Cleance me from all my sins with Your precious blood. Give me the strength to rely on Your divine will & follow Your commandments to the later. Amen.

Judges 9:10-11 “Then the trees said to the fig tree, ‘You come and reign over us!’ But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I cease my sweetness and my good fruit, And go to sway over trees?’

INSIGHT -The fig tree is used as a symbol of Kingship in the parable by Jotham. -Tree here represent people. -The people of Shechem appointed Abimelech as king after they killed 70 of his fathers brothers. -The bramble tree was willing to rule over other tree in truth. -The fig tree produces sweet fruits & was resistant to rule over other trees.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, You are our King & Savior. Give us honorable leaders who will accept to lead in Your ways. In their vocation let me share in Your light that illuminates love into the citizens homes. We pray this to the Lord. Amen.

Isaiah 38:21 Now Isaiah had said, “Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.”

INSIGHT -Prophet Isaiah was sent to King Hezekiah who used the fig tree to heal his boil. -King Hezekiah of Judah prayed to God with an account his righteousness & he was added 15 more years & was promised deliverance from the king of Assyria. -In 2 Kings 20:7, this account is echoed clearly. -The fig tree here is used for healing & deliverance from death.

PRAYER: Jehovah Shammah, You healed King Hezekiah, added him 15 more years & saved him from his enemies; do not pass me by, Lord. Heal me from all my physical, spiritual, emotional & financial boils. Protect me from my enemies & the evil one who comes to kill, steal & destroy. Lengthen my days & give me peace. Amen.

Mark 13:28 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.

INSIGHT -Jesus told the parable of the fig tree to explain the end of the world. -He alleges that noone knows the day or hour; neither the angels nor Himself but only the Father. -In Rev 6:13, the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. This is an indication of ‘summer.’
-The fig tree is symbolic to the signs of the end days as Jesus emphasis to everyone is to keep watch & pray.

PRAYER: Elohim my God, have mercy on me & cleanse me of all my sins. Give me the wisdom & patience to be still as deceiving men lie about the day of Your second coming. Direct me always in Your paths that lead to heaven. I humbly ask You to write my name in the book of life so that i can inherit Your kingdom when You come again. Amen.

Matthew 21:18-19 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.

INSIGHT -Jesus was hungry & needed to eat. He came by the fig tree & found no fruit. He cursed it & it withered.
-This was after the triumphant entry when multitudes cut down trees & spread their clothes on the road singing praises to Jesus. -This indicated that the fig tree was of less importance, as Jews valued it too much. Adam & Eve used it as cloth instead of waiting on God to cloth them. We should seek God first in Faith. -In John 15:5-6, Jesus says He is the vine(vine tree) as we are branches & without Him we can do nothing. -Here the fig tree represent man’s own will which is not God’s will. Thus we should seek God’s will as His thoughts are not our thought neither His ways our ways (Isaiah 55:8).

PRAYER: Abba Father, Your thoughts are not my thoughts neither Your ways my ways. You are the vine & I Your branch, show me Your will as I choose to abide in You. Give me firmer faith, heal my boils & protect me from the evil one. Cloth me with Your full armor & come into my heart to strengthen me. This I pray to the Lord. Amen.
