CORRUPTION OF FLESH CORRUPTION OF FLESH
Genesis 6:11-13 “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed... CORRUPTION OF FLESH

Genesis 6:11-13

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”

INSIGHT

-After Adam and Eve fell, sin grew on the face of the earth and it displeased God, and He brought judgement through a flood. From the book of 2 Peter 2:5-9 we find that; Noah lived a separated life and the Lord saved him with his entire household; because he was a righteous man. God also condemned the city of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless. If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. We also know that the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life are not of the Father but of the world. The world is passing away and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:16-17). We are reminded to return to God through repentance as we humbly ourselves, pray and be careful to do His will. To live separated lives like Noah and Lot, and seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and all other things will be added unto us. To put our trust in God alone and not in our social status, money, health, power which are fleeting. But to fear God for only He can destroy both the body and the soul, and when we fear Him, we shall live in safety despite the challenges that come our way. We should also remember that we are the light of the world and are called to demonstrate Christ-likeness through our words and actions; so that others may see and glorify the Father in heaven. Finally, despite the challenges that we are facing with the corona virus, we should not to be anxious about anything but in everything through prayer, supplication and thanksgiving to make our requests known to God and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

PRAYER

Deuteronomy 4:15-16

“Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female,”

INSIGHT

-Idol worship was common in the Biblical times as it is prevalent today. God gave the children of Israel the Ten commandments and clearly indicated that “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments” (Exodus 20:3-6). When they did not heed to the voice of the Lord and made a golden image of a calf to worship it as Moses had gone to collect the Ten Commandments, the wrath of God came upon them. The Lord said to Moses “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt (Exodus 32:7). Three thousand men died that day and the Lord struck the Israelites with a plague. When the people humbled themselves before God, they received healing and restoration. We see in Psalm 135:15-18 that, the idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them. God requires us to love Him with all our hearts, minds, souls and strength and our neighbours ad ourselves. We also find other forms of idolatry in Colossians 3:5, including: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed. We are called to flee from all these things are seek the Lord wholeheartedly and return to Him with repentant hearts, and He will deliver us from all evil.

PRAYER

Lord You are our only God and only You are worthy of our worship and praise. Forgive us Father for we have turned away from You in idolatry, idolatry in our hearts, minds, society, nation and the entire world. We have gone astray forgive us merciful Father. We have mixed Your altar with the altars of other gods, forgive us Jesus and cover us with Your precious blood. Only You are holy, only You are our God, only You deserve our worship and praises. We humbly implore You to remove everything that is displeasing to You in our hearts and help us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Conform us to Your image Lord for You created us in Your image and likeness. Have mercy on our president and all our leaders that they may hearken to Your voice and worship You alone. By Your merciful love Lord, if you are pleased with us, teach us Your ways so that we may know You and continue to find favor with You. Remember with mercy Jesus that this nation is Your people, from everlasting to everlasting. Only in You do we live, move and have our being, stay in us for we are nothing without You. Save us merciful Father from the corona virus and the consequences that come with it. Deliver us Lord from all the snares of the wicked one for we are Your children Lord according to the promise. Your promises Lord are true and right and can never be thwarted, for You are not a man that You should lie nor a son of man that You should repent. Your faithfulness is everlasting Jehovah and Your judgment is righteous, have mercy on us Jesus and on the whole world. Only You are worthy of our worship and praise, only You are our God. We declare that we shall dwell in Your house forever, all the days of our lives, grant us rest. At Your name Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus You are the Lord to the glory of God the Father. Receive our praises and worship from our humble hearts Lord, now and forever. Amen

Galatians 6:7-9

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

INSIGHT

-He that sows to the flesh reaps corruption but He who sows of the Spirit reaps eternal life. Often times; men find excuses to follow, support and propagate the gospel of Christ; but elude the truth by the treachery of the heart. The Lord searches the heart and cannot be mocked. God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth. During times of prosperity we are called to rejoice in the Lord, during times of adversity and lack we are also called to give thanks to God. This is a time when the world is battling with corona virus and some nations are reporting numerous deaths daily. We should always remember to give thanks to God and rejoice in Him despite such challenges; for He inhabits our praises and will deliver us from all distress. God is merciful and full of compassion. He calls us to trust in Him at every moment of our lives. We are also reminded to show love to others always especially we who are of the household of faith, for those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly and those who sow bountifully will reap bountifully.

PRAYER

Praise the Lord, all nations. Extol Him, all peoples. For great is His steadfast love toward us, and His faithfulness endures forever. Lord You are the light and our salvation, whom shall we fear. Lord You are the stronghold of our lives, whom shall we be afraid. Lord You are merciful and full of compassion, have mercy on us and cleanse us with Your precious blood. Heal us and deliver the whole world from corona virus, we humbly pray. We bless You Jesus and all that is within us, we bless Your holy name. We bless You Oh Lord and forget not all Your benefits. You Who forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases. You Who redeems our lives from destruction and crown us with loving-kindness and tender mercies. You Who satisfy our mouths with good things, so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s. You execute righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed, we praise Your holy name Jesus. Lord You are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy, we praise Your holy name. Lord You are full of mercy and love, abounding in kindness and blessings, thank You for this far that You have brought us. Our Father who at in heaven; hallowed be Your name; Your Kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptations but deliver us from evil; for thine is the Kingdom the power and the glory; forever and ever. Amen

Ephesians 4:20-24

“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

INSIGHT

-Far beyond the power of average minds, in order to get hold of the fundamental laws of moral conduct is the power of the word of God. It brings healing, correction, direction, purpose and truth. Now that Christ died and resurrected for our sake and gave us His Holy Spirit, we should put away our old self which was founded in corruption and be renewed by the power of God that dwells in us. Since God is Holy, He calls us to be holy like Him and to look to Him for He direction and purpose, in this journey of faith. This is the faith that we have in God for He loved the world and gave us His only Son Jesus, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

PRAYER

We thank You Holy Spirit for dwelling in us. As You raised Jesus from the dead into life, may new life spring forth in us, our families, businesses, careers, education, leadership, marriages, churches, economy, nation and in the whole world. Renew our minds Holy Spirit so that we may remain in You as You are in us. Deliver us from all forms of corruption and lead us in the way we should go. Create in us clean hearts Oh Lord and renew a steadfast spirit within us. May we decrease as You increase for we are nothing without You Lord. Forgive us all the sins we have ever committed and deliver us from all accusations that the accuser has against us. Protect us merciful Father from all snares of the evil one including corona virus and cover us with Your precious blood. Heal all those who are sick for by Your stripes we were healed. Help us Dear Jesus to find solutions to the problems that face us everyday including the corona virus and give us a clear vision for the future. You are our wisdom and strength Father, we put all our trust in You, grant us all the gift of salvation we humbly pray. Amen

Acts 2:30-31

“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.”

INSIGHT

-The Lord made a covenant with His chosen and sworn to His servant David. That His seed He will establish forever, and build up his throne to all generations (Psalm 89:3-4). This covenant referred to the Messiah who sits at the right hand of the throne of God from everlasting to everlasting. Christ is our Strong Tower and Shield, those who run to Him find comfort for their souls. Christ is our Redeemer and Salvation, He did not see corruption; but was undefiled and pure, so that we too may become like Him. He is our Resurrection and Life, we have sure hope of eternal life with Him. We are reminded to look to Christ, the author and finisher of our faith despite the challenges that we are faced with and when we call on His name, He will save us.

SUMMARY

Corruption of the flesh came to the world when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and man was alienated from God. God then saw that the corruption that was on the earth was great and regretted ever creating man and His heart was deeply troubled (Gen 6:5-6). He brought a great flood where all the people earth was wiped out except for Noah and his family for he was a righteous man. The corruption in Sodom and Gomorrah also displeased God and He destroyed the dwellers there by fire but Lot was saved since he was righteous. It is clear then that we are called to be righteous through our faith in Christ Jesus. We have sure hope that Christ is our Resurrection and Life and calls us to do His will. We have received the righteousness of God through the death and resurrection of Christ and if we believe in Him, we shall not die but to live to declare His goodness. Corruption of the flesh begins in the heart which according to the Bible is desperately wicked. Idolatry, deceitful lusts, lusts of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life have been stated as constituents of corruption. The Holy Spirit renews our minds to live in holiness and righteousness as He wills, and calls us to love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, and our neighbours as ourselves. God also calls us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling for once we have been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, shared in the Holy Spirit, tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance it is a loss since we crucify the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace (Heb 6:4-6). The world has many opportunities and challenges and we cannot live without Jesus Christ in our hearts Who strengthens us, counsels us, heals our wounds, comforts us and gives us victory over all things. Let us therefore return to Christ with repentance, submitting our thoughts, hearts desires, our worries, anxieties and cares to Him for His love for us is unending.

PRAYER

Lord You have made known to us the ways of life; You will make us full of joy in Your presence. Christ You are the hope of our Salvation, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Jehovah You are the Foundation of our faith, we put all our trust in You. Father You are our Strong Tower and Shield, we run to You for comfort and strength. Forgive us all our sins and lead us in the way of life for Your greater glory. Heal all our spiritual, psychological, emotional, political, economic and social wounds merciful Father, we put all our trust in You. Holy Spirit You are our Resurrection and Life, fill us with Your wisdom and love, and help us to see You at every moment of our lives. You are our Redeemer and Comforter, we rely on Your grace everyday. We give You all our thanksgiving and praises Lord our God, during hard times and times of rejoicing, for that is Your will through Christ Jesus. You have always been with us, You have blessed us, protected us, sustained us, provided for us, healed our wounds, granted us favor, for we belong to You. We did not choose You but You chose us, thank You for choosing us Everlasting Father. We are Your children Abba Father, may Your purposes in our lives prevail. Amen
