Genesis 1:31
“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
INSIGHT
-Six in Hebrew is written as sheth which means imperfect & is the number of man.
-On the sixth day of creation God created man in His own image & likeness; & gave us dominion over all the fish, animals & birds; & authority to multiply & fill the earth. God saw everything that He had made was good & created a day of rest on the on the seventh day, a day of rest & completion. Through His authority, Christ has subdued all things to Himself in His glorious body & in our imperfections we strive on; in His will that we may lay hold of that which He has already laid hold for us (Phil 3:12-21).
PRAYER
Lord our Father, how excellent is Your name is all the earth. Thank You for this opportunity to begin a new week in good health, it’s not by our power or might but by Your Spirit Lord. We were born imperfect from our mothers wombs, but You have held our hands & perfected us by Your precious blood, we thank You Lord. You are our strength & shield Lord all our help comes from You, purify us & make every crooked paths straight that we may attain that which You have always intended for us Father. We give You all the glory & praise almighty God. Amen
Job 5:17-19
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole. He shall deliver you in six troubles, Yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.”
INSIGHT
-God chastens us in many different ways & most times to align us with His will; & to protect us from evil, for the aim of victory. Eliphaz speaks to Job who was going through a rough time but was eventually successful & gained more than he initially had. King Solomon says whoever loves knowledge loves instruction but he who hates correction is stupid (Prov 12:1). God leads us in many areas of our lives including family, business, employment, school, marriages, ministry, leadership, social life etc. It is important therefore for us to follow the path that He leads us through, to be renewed in the mind & change our ways than to remain captive to sin & discouragement.
PRAYER
You have shown us the path of life Lord our Saviour, in Your presence there is fullness of joy. Renew our minds & counsel us in the way we should go; Father. Our hearts rejoice in You Lord; for You have delivered us from Sheol by Your mighty hand. Our souls rest secure in You Father, our only hope & salvation. Guide us Lord in all we seek to achieve; that we may be victorious in all things. Direct all leaders Father; that they may always walk in Your presence & make proper decisions for the good of all citizens. Amen
Proverbs 6:16-19
“These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”
INSIGHT
-These scriptures should strike anyone’s eye strongly with the vivid revelations of six things that God hate & seven that are an abomination. First is a proud look for God despises the proud & gives grace to the humble (Jam 4:6). A lying tongue which expresses deceit; as the devil is also referred to as the deceiver who comes to deceive the world. A heart that devices wicked schemes designed for destruction of others. Feet that are quick to partake of or execute mischief, without consciousness or delay. A false witness who testifies lies in court or expresses untrue statements against another. Finally; one who sows contention among fellow believers. We are reminded to be strong in the Lord & to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the devil’s schemes, for we battle not against flesh & blood but against principalities, powers of this dark world & spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm (Eph 6:10-12).
PRAYER
Oh Lord our Father we come to You with hearts full of humility, have mercy on us. Our hearts are full of evil; who can know them, only You Jesus Who searches our hearts & examines our minds can help us. Many are the times we have harbored pride, deceit, evil plans & many other wicked schemes in our hearts, forgive & transform us Lord; we humbly ask You. Touch all those who are actively involved in domestic, national & international violence, that they may know You Jesus; so that Your peace & love may prevail in all the earth. Strengthen us all Lord & deliver us from every evil; that Your grace may abide in us forever. Amen
John 2:6-8
”Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.”
INSIGHT
-Jesus performed His first miracle at the weeding at Cana of Galilee when they ran out of wine. In the Jewish tradition, weddings were & are still performed for a whole week up-to date. According to manner of Jewish purification, six jars of water were used for washing hands & feet in religious places, one jar each day & on the sabbath day they were considered clean. After seeing that they had no more wine, Mary mother of Jesus requested Him to intervene with perfect knowledge that Jesus had power to perform any miracle. Jesus said “My hour has not yet come”, which probably meant time for His death, resurrection & afterwards sending the Helper to us. He instructed them to fill the jars with water & the water instantly changed to wine. We often refer water to the word of God Who is Christ & wine to the Holy Spirit. This event was therefore a foresight of Jesus’ death, resurrection & sending us the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts.
PRAYER
Jesus our Saviour we love You & magnify Your holy name. You did not leave us orphan but sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us that we may receive help all the time & be filled with His fruit & gifts, we thank You Lord. You provided new wine for the newly weds at the wedding of Cana for You are full of mercy Lord, provide new wine in our lives & make us new wine skins to contain newness of life that You always bestow unto us. Lord be the foundation of all families, relationships & marriages, that strife, hatred, separation, divorce may not occur for the glory of Your name. Many have spread hatred & turned violent against their own families even coming to the point of killing their loved ones, Lord have mercy on us & on the whole world. Others have separated in marriage, Father have mercy & reunite them in perfect unity by Your grace according to Your will. Many others are single & yet to engage in marriage, be merciful Oh Lord & give us the best spouses according to Your merciful love. You are lifted on high Lord, we sing Your praises & exult You everyday. Amen
Mark 9:2
“Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.”
INSIGHT
-Jesus took Peter, James & John to the mount of transfiguration who witnessed a foresight of Jesus’ glory before which He had spoken of His death & resurrection to them after six days. Moses & Elijah represented the law & the prophets respectively which highlight our imperfections & lead us to Christ Who is love. Jesus instructs us to love our enemies that we may be perfect because He is perfect (Mat 5:48). By this He calls us to no longer live for ourselves but for Him Who died for us & rose again. By which we are reconciled to Christ Who knew no sin but became sin that we may become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor 5:18-21).
SUMMARY
-Six in Hebrew is written as sheth which means imperfect & is the number of man.
-God created man on the sixth day in His own image & likeness; & gave us dominion over all the fish, animals & birds; & authority to multiply & fill the earth. After God saw that everything He had created was good, He made the seventh day of rest & completion (Gen 1:26-31). Job went through a rough time but Eliphaz comforted him saying that God chastises man as He pleases & delivers him from six troubles & in seven nothing can harm him (Job 5:17-19). King Solomon says whoever loves knowledge loves instruction but he who hates correction is stupid (Prov 12:1). God leads us in many areas of our lives including family, business, employment, school, marriages, ministry, leadership, social life etc, that we may be successful in what we do. It is important therefore for us to follow the path of life, to be renewed in the mind & change our ways than to remain captive to sin & discouragement. We are also told that God despises six things & seven are an abomination, a proud look for He despises the proud & gives grace to the humble, a lying tongue which expresses deceit, a heart that devices wicked schemes designed for destruction of others, feet that are quick to partake of or execute evil, a false witness who testifies lies in court or expresses untrue statements against another & one who sows contention among fellow believers (Prov 6:16-19). We are therefore called to be strong in the Lord & to put on His whole armor that we may be able to stand against the devil’s schemes, for we battle not against flesh & blood but against principalities, powers of this dark world & spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm (Eph 6:10-12). Just like the events during Jesus’ transfiguration, He performed His first miracle when He changed water into wine instantly using six jars. These jars of water were often used by Jews in religious places to purify themselves, one each day & on the sabbath day they were considered clean. Mary Her mother had requested Him to intervene as wine had ran out & Jesus said “My hour has not yet come”, which probably meant His time to be glorified (Jn 2:3-8). We often refer water to the word of God Who is Christ & wine to the Holy Spirit. Jesus died, resurrection & sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts & to help us in our imperfect nature overcome our daily challenges as we strive on in His will to reach that which He has already laid hold for us (Phil 3:12-21).
PRAYER
Lord our Father, we thank You for all You have done unto us. Strengthen us in Your grace as we strive on in life that we may achieve that which is written in our books & lay hold that which You have already laid hold for us. Guide us in Your perfect love that we may always love You, love our neighbors & love our enemies. Hide us, our families & nation Lord under the shadow of Your wings & keep us as the apple of Your eye, that we may always live in the newness of life. Amen
