THEME: POWER OF THE TONGUE
1 Corinthians 14:4
“Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.”
INSIGHT
-The is always power behind words. Words are not normally just spoken but are often backed up by some power; either good or evil. If we consider the predicament that Adam and Eve got into, they were deceived by the serpent and fell into sin. On the other hand, God spoke to many of His servants including Abraham, Moses, Deborah, Paul and many others who performed His instructions, as He does today. The Holy Spirit imparts in us spiritual gifts that enable us to effectively fulfil His purpose. The gift of speaking in tongues is vital for personal edification, and unless there is interpretation only God understands. The gift of prophecy is more corporate than personal for it causes edification to the body of Christ. During the day of Pentecost, we find the an impartation of the gift of tongues through the work of the Holy Spirit, and a fulfilment of the law and prophets, through love (Acts 2:4).
