THEME: THE LORD RESTORES
Job 42:10-17
“And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the Lord had brought upon him. Each one gave him a piece of silver and each a ring of gold. Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch. In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. So Job died, old and full of days.”
INSIGHT
-Job was a blameless, upright and God fearing man. He was shaken adversely by the devil who was permitted by God to take everything but his soul. The devil being a master of destruction, who kills, steals and destroys after forming an accusation against the brethren, he took away Jobs children, livestock and brought forth disease in form of boils on his body. Like the Psalmist, he must have cried to the Lord, “I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors” (Psalm 119:121). Despite the calamity that befell him, he did not curse God. Job prayed for his friends and was restored. Whatever he lost was restored double to him. He lived to see four generations and was extremely blessed. Psalms 37:9 reveals that, “For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.” Like Job, we are called to be faithful always despite the trials that come our way and we will see the light of God’s salvation. We should not despair but remember that, the blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22).
