THEME: FAITHFULNESS TO GOD

1 Samuel 17:28

“Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.””

INSIGHT

David, the last born in his family among eight sons was left in charge of his father’s flock. The flock was rather small but David was committed to tend it even when he was confronted by danger from the bear and lion, he did not run for his life but remained faithful. When his father sent him to Eliab and his other brothers at the battle field, he rose up early and left the sheep with a keeper (1 Samuel 17:20). David was faithful in little things and he was entrusted with much. What if David not not wake up early but went later in the day. What if David did not hearken to the voice of his father and asked him to send the other brothers since only three were at battle. What if David was discouraged by the words of his brother Eliab when he got to the battle field. He would not have had the courage to face the Philistine giant and other armies later during his reign. What if David abandoned the little sheep and focused on the great opportunities that were ahead of him, having been anointed king. David appreciated his small beginnings and he was put in charge of much. “Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel” (2 Samuel‬ ‭7:8‬). Sometimes we are entrusted with little things but because of the big visions that we cloud our commitment, we despise these things. If we despise little things, who is going to trust us with much? Like David, God tests us with little things and if we abandon them, even what we have is taken away. We then loose great opportunities that come with a better future. David was devoted to his mission and assignments. Despite the danger that confronted his life, he was ready to fight. When all the Israelite armies were afraid of Goliath, David did not consider the size of the Philistine giant nor the sophistication of his weapons but stepped into the battle field in the name of the Lord. When David passed the test of little things, he was entrusted with much. He became the king of a great people and fought diligently to the end. Apostle Paul also went through diverse challenges including being tortured and imprissoned for the gospel, but he fought the good fight, kept the faith and won the race. Like David and Paul, God calls us to be committed in small things even if they might seem to small for now, but if we excel in them, He is going to put us in charge of great things.

PRAYER

Almighty and Everlasting Father, thank You for You have been faithful to us even when we have become unfaithful. Thank You for the far that You have brought us. Thank You for the far that You are taking us. Thank You for the little that You have placed into our hands. We are sorry for the many times we have failed in the test of faithfulness. Forgive us dear Jesus and grant us the wisdom and grace to conquer all. In all our work, ministries, marriages, leadership, families, Christianity and assignments, may You go ahead of us merciful Lord and make all the crooked paths straight. You are the good Shepherd and we are the sheep of Your pasture, we seek Your help always so that we may serve You as You please. May You always lead us in our mission and vision, that we may always be faithful to You dear Master. Thank You for the plans You have for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future. Like king David, we commit our future unto Your able hands, guide us and lead us in our purposes for the glory of Your name. We commit the future of our children unto Your able hands, lead them and take charge of their lives. We commit the future of our businesses and work unto the able hands Master, grant us favor before You and before men and women. We commit our marriages unto Your able hands Jesus, smear Your precious blood on their foundation. We commit our church unto Your able hands Abba Father, may it always stand on the Rock You are, and cause many to know You and come to You. We commit the future of our nation unto Your able hands Lord, guide us all in the way of truth and take over every area. Give us the grace Lord to fight the giants in our lives and society, for we are more that conquerers in You Jesus. Help us to be faithful in little things Holy Spirit and to be dependable in much. Help us to fight the good fight, to keep the faith and finish the race, for the glory of You name. All glory, honor, power, praise and wisdom belong to You Jesus, now and forever. Amen
