THEME: NOTHING WITHOUT FAITH

Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

INSIGHT

-Moses assures Israel of the constant presence of God with them; in the above scripture. Joshua is well pleased to be admonished by Moses to be strong and of good courage. Like Joshua, the Angel of the Lord comforted Gideon when he intended to face the Amalekites and Midianites saying “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:12). Even after this reassurance, Gideon doubted and tested God with a fleece of wool. The Lord then said to him “Arise go against the camp, for  I have delivered it into your hand” (Judges 7:9). Gideon again sort for reassurance and went down to the camp where the Midianites and Amalekites rested and heard one of men telling his colleagues of a dream where Gideon would obtain victory against them, which came to pass. Like Gideon and the Israelites, sometimes we doubt the promises of God and fail to comprehend His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. God has given us His Holy Spirit to dwell in us always. He is our Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Strengthener, Advocate and Intercessor and calls us to completely rely on Him. He calls us to trust in Him with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding and in all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, He helps us, guide us, supports us, strengthens us and fights for us just like He did with Gideon and the Israelites. We are then called to be strong in faith and of good courage for without faith, we cannot please God for He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

PRAYER

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth, worship the Lord with gladness. Come before Him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, and we are His. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving; go into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever,
and His faithfulness continues to each generation. Fill us Holy Spirit with courage and strength in our journey of faith. Deliver us from all forms of doubt and anxiety but comfort us and defend us, righteous Advocate. Help us when we are weak and always give us hope of a better future. Counsel us when we go astray and fill us with Your fear. Teach us to trust in You Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding, but to acknowledge You in our ways and direct our paths. Help us to wait on You in all situations and fill us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding through Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen
