THEME: JOY
Luke 24:51-53
”Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.”
INSIGHT
-The beginning of Jesus life on earth & His end were similar for they both share the characteristics of rejoicing. During His birth, the angel brought good news of joy to Mary His mother that Jesus was destined to take away the sins of the world (Mat 1:21), & His end was also characterized by rejoicing for this prophecy was fulfilled & the disciples worshipped Him continually when He was carried up to heaven. The disciples rejoiced despite Jesus leaving them for Heaven. They understood that their time to proclaim the gospel of the Lord had come as His representatives on earth; empowered by the Holy Spirit, which we are also called to do.
SUMMARY
Joy is a permanent possession while happiness is fleeting for it is dependent on ones emotions. Joy is essential to every Christian life which makes us forget our troubles by channeling them to Christ Who increases our days; as seen from the time Israelites were redeemed from slavery in Egypt. The Holy Spirit gives us the grace of joy everyday despite the shortcomings that come our way. The joy of the Lord therefore becomes our strength & makes us strong through His everlasting love that enable us overcome every storm & weakness when we approach His throne of grace. The Holy Spirit also gives us joy & peace that we may rest secure in Christ Who is our Foundation that we may believe in Him & have life in abundance. We are also called to rejoice for our names are written in heaven & not because our spirits submit to us (Lk 10:20).
