Joel 2:12-13
“Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.
INSIGHT
-Prophet Joel conveys to the people God’s message of fasting & penance.
-Fasting should entail cleansing of the heart & it’s desires not just a show of torn garments as most people did in the old testament.
-Lent is a time when we are called to repent & return to God for He is merciful, slow to anger, kind & relents from doing harm.
PRAYER
Almighty Father, have mercy of me & be kind to me as I come to You with humility at heart. Save me from Your wrath for You are slow to anger. Search my heart & cleanse me entirely with Your precious blood. Amen.
