THEME: SOIL
Matthew 13:3-8 NKJV
“Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
INSIGHT
-The parable of the sower constitutes one of the eight major parables of the kingdom of God. The word parable comes from the Greek word parabole which means a placing beside, thus indicates a comparison or illustration. The parable center’s it’s message on the gospel of the kingdom which meets with varying levels of success in the human heart. This parable outlines that the condition of our hearts is different and leads to diversity in the blessings that the Lord bestows upon us. The soil is the personified to represent our hearts and our response to the gospel of truth. The good soil represents a heart that is both receptive to and nourishes the gospel, leading to spiritual growth. The varying yields indicate that not all believers produce the same amount of fruit, but all are considered fruitful. The productivity is tied to one’s depth of commitment, understanding, and response to God’s Word. From Jesus’ interpretation, we learn that the kingdom is currently present though not consummated, that self sufficiency opposes the gospel and a measurably great response can be expected by many so as to achieve results. We are thus encouraged to cultivate hearts that are fertile ground for spiritual truth, with the promise of divine reward based on our response.
PRAYER
You Oh Lord are my God, earnestly I seek You. I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You. In a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and glory. Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands. May You make our hearts receptive and humble enough to hear and retain Your gospel message of truth. May You plant our hearts in Your streams of many waters, that we may bring forth branches, bear much fruit and become a majestic for Your kingdom work. May You dear Lord protect us and our children even as they commence their holidays. May You make a way for all the street families and those who are suffering. May You fight for us and all those who are oppressed. May You heal our nation and grant us peace and prosperity. We honor You Lord and give You praise, and it is in Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen
