Numbers 1:2-4

“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male individually, from twenty years old and above—all who are able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their armies. And with you there shall be a man from every tribe, each one the head of his father’s house.

INSIGHT
-The book of Numbers begins with a census of the families according to their fathers house, that is the 12 tribes of Israel. This was ordered by God to establish the men who could be able to go to war from the age of 20 years & above. It was also an orderly structure of leadership which confirmed the faithfulness of God in keeping His promise to Abraham of multiplying him & his descendants. A second census carried out in Numbers 26 after the plague which decreased the population of some tribes but the majority grew substantially. Strangers & Levites were not counted as it was not Gods’ will. Division of land was later administered as an inheritance to the Israelites with the bigger families getting a larger share.

PRAYER
Lord our Father, we come before You this morning with thanksgiving in our hearts. You have been faithful to us, our families & nation, we praise You. We continue to enjoy peace in our nation & families, we bless Your name. We humbly ask You to be with the families that live in rivalry among themselves that You may shower them with Your love. Remember also Father, the war torn country that You settle them in Your peace. Help us to hold fast Your word that we may inherit all good things. We praise You & honour You. Amen
