THEME: ENJOYMENT
Deuteronomy 6:1-2 NIV
”These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.“
INSIGHT
–Enjoyment can either be classified as either temporal or long-lived. Temporal enjoyment last for only a little while and it soon vanishes due to a multitude of factors including:- lack of financial capacity, physical inability, fatigue and disinterest, or death. According to the above scriptures, we find the formula to achieving long-term enjoyment in the Lord. Upholding the fear of the Lord and keeping His commandments are the main keys which complement each other. The fifth commandment is in line with this principle that when one honors his/her father and mother there obtain the promise of living long upon the land (Exodus 20:12). As we enjoy and celebrate Christmas, we are reminded to fear God and follow His statutes. We are also called to honor our parents. Some people forget to get in touch and celebrate with their parents even during the Christmas season. Some seclude themselves and neglect their parents and families completely. It is vital to unite and fellowship with family and support when one has the chance and ability.
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus we honor You and celebrate Your goodness and love upon us. You are Good Lord and Faithful. You are our God and our Lord and none can compare to You. May You teach us to do Your will and follow Your commandments. May You install in us the fear of You Lord and help to honor our parents. May You give us long life and enable us to enjoy what You have provided. May Your love abound in our hearts according to Your everlasting grace. Amen
