THEME: PROMISE OF GREATNESS
James 5:17-18 NKJV
“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.”
INSIGHT
-James emphasizes on the power of prayer and operating in the power of the Holy Spirit. He exposes the effectual nature of the fervent prayer of a righteous man which avails much. Also that power and greatness is not limited to a certain few, such as apostles and prophets. He compares prophet Elijah to believers who possess power lying within and is made evident through the help of the Holy Spirit. Elijah prophesied and went to mount Carmel and prayed, and the drought came to an end (1 Kings 17:1, 18:41-46), and again fire came down from heaven (1 Kings 18:38). We are the body of Christ and each one of us is a part of it. Some among us have relied on the power of medicine and forgotten the power of the Holy Spirit. Some among us have over-relied on other powers and forgotten our powerful Savior. We are called to pray and exercise the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given us and all glory will go back to God.
