THEME: NOTHING WITHOUT FAITH
Matthew 17:20-21
“So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
INSIGHT
-A man brought his son who suffered from epilepsy to the disciples but they could not heal him. He then proceeded to Jesus for healing and the boy was immediately restored. The disciples were concerned and they asked Jesus why they could not cast out the demons. Jesus said that to remove such demons; one needs to pray and fast. Further that if we have faith as little as a mustered seed; we can move mountains. In our discipleship mission; we are called to have faith in God despite the challenges that we may encounter and we will accomplish our purposes for the glory of God. Also if we ask anything in faith and we don’t doubt; it will be done for us (Matthew 21:21).
SUMMARY
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. We do not believe in things that we see or those that have come to pass, but those that are yet to come. We are called to walk by faith and not by sight so that we may please God. God’s promises are true and right, yes and amen, and we called to have faith in Him. We find patriarchs in Hebrew chapter 11 like; Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Samson, Gideon, Barak, Samuel and others who had faith and obtained their reward. Abraham the father of faith was promised many descendants like the stars and the sand of the sea show and he believed. Even though he was old and his wife barren, he believed in God and this promise came to pass. Zachariah was promised a son when his wife was barren. He doubted and he became mute until his son John was born. Gideon also doubted God’s word after the angel promised the Israelites victory over the Amalekites and Midianites, and when he believed, they won the battle. We are called to be strong and courageous in Christ, for we have been saved by grace through faith, not of yourselves but it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). We should then trust in God with all our hearts and learn not on our own understanding, and in all our ways acknowledge God and He will make all our crooked paths straight. God also reminds us to have faith in His faithfulness and whatever we require from Him, He will do according to His will. When we realize that faith as tiny as a mastered seed can move mountains, we rest in the promises of God and remove all doubt from our hearts. With Christ as our Vine, we can achieve much more when we abide in Him and He in us. Nothing is impossible with God and without God we achieve nothing. When we are weak through infirmities we can boast confidently knowing that Christs’ power is made perfect in our weakness, and when we are weak then we are strong. We are then called to approach the throne of grace with boldness; so that we may obtain mercy and grace in time of need.
PRAYER
We need You Lord, every second of our lives. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords, all glory and praise belongs to You. We need You Holy Spirit in our lives always, have Your way in us. You are the way, the truth and the life, have Your way in us. We come to Your throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and grace to help us in times of need, grant us mercy dear Jesus. Help us to realize that it is by grace that we are saved, and teach us to always trust in You Lord. Wash us, our families, leaders, nation and whole world with Your precious blood and make us as white as snow Jesus. Be with all those who are sick, suffering, homeless, orphans, widows and demon possessed that You may touch them by Your saving arm. Deliver them from all their tribulations and strengthen their faith in You. Be with all those who do not know You that they may come to salvation. Help us to live by faith and not by sight Jesus so that whatever we ask in Your name may be done unto us. Thank You for Your gift of faith Lord, increase our faith in You we humbly ask You. In our distress we cry to You Lord, fight for us. We cast all our burdens and cares unto You Lord for You care for us, have mercy on us. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; and the love of God; and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit; be with us now and forever more. Amen
