PRIEST

Genesis 14:18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.

INSIGHT -In Hebrew, priest is written as kohen & it means vicar, minister, chaplain -Heb 5:5-6, So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek”; -King of Salem means king of peace. Abraham gave king Melchizedek a 10th of everything meaning king of righteousness (Heb 7:1-3). He was not a normal kind of priest thus likened to Christ.

PRAYER: Jesus our Father, You are our King & High Priest forever. Forgive us our sins & lead us in Your ways of righteousness. Bless all the priests, that they may do according to Your will. Amen

Deuteronomy 18:1-2 “The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and His portion. Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord is their inheritance, as He said to them.

INSIGHT -Num 18:21, “Behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work which they perform, the work of the tabernacle of meeting. -Since the priests did not have inheritance, they were given tithes as an inheritance. The priests belong to God (Num 3:13).

PRAYER Strengthen the priests all over the world, Lord. As they devote their time & life in service to the brethren. Help them in all their needs so that they may focus on their calling. Amen

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

INSIGHT -The Lord was cautioning the Israelites & the priest of the time for rejecting His knowledge & obedience in their moral decadence. -Isaiah 5:13, Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no knowledge. Isaiah is echoing the same sentiments.

PRAYER As we continuously seek Your mercy; Lord. May we be enlightened in Your truth, wisdom & knowledge, so that we may be truly obedient to You. Shine Your face upon us & we shall be saved. Amen

Hebrews 10:19-23 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

INSIGHT -John 19:34, But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. -Jesus our High Priest forever; over the house of God, gave his life for us. The temple veil was represented by His flesh, His blood – remission of sins & access to God & water from His side is the pure water which washes our bodies.

PRAYER Wash us with Your blood & water, Jesus, that we may be cleansed from all sins & purified from evil conscience. You are the High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Renew our hearts & minds so we may always live in Your grace as we hold fast our faith in You. Amen

John 6:54-56 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

INSIGHT -Heb 9:26-28, priests offered animal sacrifice for themselves & the people once a year for their sins but Jesus put away sin by sacrifice of Himself for us & He will come again for our salvation. -By partaking of the body & blood of Christ(Holy communion), we abide in Him & access eternal life. -Jesus is our High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek/ the priests belong to God as inheritance/ when we reject knowledge we are rejected by God/ Jesus is the High priest over the house of God.

PRAYER Jesus our High Priest, cleanse us from all unrighteousness & increase our love for You. May we abide in You by believing in You. Increase our faith in Your divine Word as we await in hope for salvation by Your second coming. As we partake of Your body and blood; may access eternal life. Amen
