Psalms 37:7 NKJV

“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.”

INSIGHT

-Patience is Hebrew is written as qawah which means to be calm, to wait or expect. We are reminded to set our hearts on the Lord and intentionally commit all our plans to Him daily as we align our will to His will. To trust in God and wait patiently for Him even though we see the wicked prospering. God call us to maintain a steadfast and have unwavering trust in Him, even in the midst of challenging circumstances or when faced with the apparent success of the wicked. It reminds us that God is ultimately in control and that He will bring justice and righteousness in His perfect timing. The advantage herein is that we will inherit the land, dwell in peace and prosperity.

1 Samuel 13:5-14 NKJV

“Then the Philistines gathered together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. And they came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of Beth Aven. When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes, and in pits. And some of the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering. Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him. And Samuel said, “What have you done?” Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash, then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.” And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”
INSIGHT

-The Israelites found themselves in a precarious situation under siege by the Philistines. They trembled and sort for refuge from king Saul who lost his patience upon Samuel’s delay and sacrificed at the altar designed for priests. His pivotal decision altered his fate. By unlawfully offering the burnt offering himself, Saul steps outside the boundaries of God’s command, showcasing his failure to trust in God’s timing and he lost his kingship. King David waited on the Lord and did His will, and his kingdom was established forever. We are called to wait on God despite the circumstances and He will always show us His glory. God also requires that we love Him and submit our hearts totally to Him.

Psalms 40:1-4 NKJV

“I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”

Believers are evidently redeemed from the dominion of sin and satan when we trust in God. David received spontaneous praise, a new song that comes from our God. Galatians 6:9-10 NKJV

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

INSIGHT

Paul encourages believers to remain steadfast in their good works, despite challenges or delays in seeing results. Doing good often requires effort and persistence, and we are encouraged not to lose heart. The exhortation acknowledges that discouragement is common when we don’t see immediate results. Paul counters this by pointing believers to the eventual fulfillment of God’s promises. The reward is to encourage brethren to remain on course and the result is often a blessing and reward that come from faithful living.

SUMMARY

Patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and it is founded on love. Patience relies on trusting in God and His timing, holding fast forbearance. Patience outlines the ability to endure difficult situations, people and environments without giving into anger or giving up hope. God continues to grant us patience when we are faced by disappointing situations. In 1 Samuel 13:5-14 we find that when Samuel delayed to come to Gilgal, Saul lost patience and panicked when threatened by attack through the Amalekite troops, and decided to offer the burnt sacrifice. We are called to wait on the Lord despite the threat or challenges that encompass us. We are also called to display patience when people disappoint us. Our Lord calls us to rest in the Lord and wait patiently on Him, and not to fret as the wicket prosper (Psalms 37:7). God hears our prayers and answers us even at the hardest trusts. We are called to wait patiently for the Lord and He will always rescue us and set us upon a rock that cannot be shaken or moved (Psalms 40:1-4). When we wait patiently on the Lord, He renews our strength (Isaiah 40:31). Lastly, when we rely on Jesus and apply patience on Him, He releases His salvation grace upon us now and eternally through His power on the cross (Genesis 49:18).

PRAYER

We praise You dear Lord Jesus and honor You. We exult You and worship Your holy name. We will praise You dear Lord Jesus as long as we are alive and bless Your holy name. We sing praises to You our Lord God Almighty and worship You for what You have done and continue to do in our lives. Our help comes from You Oh God our Helper and Shield. May You bless us abundantly so that in all things at all times having all that we need, we may abound in every good work. May You bless us and keep us dear Jesus. May You shine Your face towards us and be gracious unto us. May You show Your countenance unto us and give us peace. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us now and forevermore. Amen.
