Genesis 3:24
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
INSIGHT
-Angel is written as malak in Hebrew & it means envoy. Angels have the following attributes: – They are spirits, are powerful, were created by God to serve Him & His children, have no sex, are immortal, have different ranks & functions. They rank as follows:- Angel of the Lord, Archangels, Principalities, Cherubim & Seraphim.
-After Adam disobeyed, God drove him out of the garden of Eden & placed cherubim to guard the way to the tree of life. In Exo 25:22, two cherubim are seen on the ark of the Testimony protecting the law given to Moses. Cherubim are described by Ezekiel to have four wings with human like hands beneath the wings, four wheels, eyes all over their bodies, feet like a calf’s & four heads in the likeness of a man, lion, ox & eagle representing each ones characteristics i.e. intelligence, power, obedience, speed & sight in that order. Again the glory of the God of Israel is seen above them (Ezek 10:19). Therefore, we can conclude that cherubim protect the holiness of God.
PRAYER
We give You thanks Father, for the peace that we have experienced in our nation during the election period. We ask You to continue giving us peace & protect us from any form of harm. You died on cross for us so that Your glory may be revealed in us. We ask You to cleanse us from all unrighteousness & kindle the fire of Your love in our hearts that Your holiness may always dwell in us. All glory & praise belongs to You, Lord. Amen
Daniel 10:12-13
Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.
INSIGHT
-Daniel humbled himself, prayed & fasted but his prayer was withheld by principalities who caused a delay for the twenty one days. The angel who went to minister to him was withheld by the prince of Persia, the head of principalities & his agents (kings of Persia ). As Daniel persisted in prayer, Archangel Michael, the chief angel of war intervened & helped him. We note that our fight is not against flesh & blood, but principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age & spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Eph 6:12). When we make the Lord our refuge & dwelling place, He gives angels charge over us to protect us from all danger (Psa 91:9-12), who are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation (Heb 1:14).
PRAYER
Lord our Father, You are our refuge & strength, we praise You & worship You. We rebuke all the plans of the evil one in our lives & place all our needs before You, hear & answer our prayers. All power & authority belongs to You Lord, we place our trust is in You, take charge of our lives, families & nation. We give You thanks always. Amen
Exodus 3:2
And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
INSIGHT
-The Angel of the Lord appear to Moses at Mount Horeb, the mountain of God & he witnessed a burning bush which was not consumed. The Angel of the Lord identified Himself as God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, & Moses was instructed to take off his sandals for that place was holy. The same instructions were given to Joshua when he went to battle against Jericho. Joshua worshiped the Angel of Lord, Who did not stop him like we see in other scriptures for it is an abomination to worship angels as they are Gods servants. God tells the Israelites in Exo 23:20-22, that He has send His angel before them, Whos’ name is in Him, has power to pardon transgressions & will bring them to the promised land. Further, in Isaiah 63:9, the Angel of the Lord in His love & pity redeemed us from our affliction, to all the days of old (eternity). Therefore, Christ is referred to as the Angel of the Lord, Who is the beginning & the end, & the Word is all about Him. He revealed Himself as an Angel in the Old Testament until John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Him so that He could dwell among us.
PRAYER
Fill our hearts with Your love Father, that we may always experience You in our lives. Renew our minds that we may be directed in Your manifest wisdom to help us in our direction of purpose. Let our hearts settle in the knowledge that You existed & knew us long before we were born. We put all our trust in You Father, be with us. Amen
Revelation 5:11-12
Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
INSIGHT
-John caught a glimpse of heaven & experienced worship of the Almighty God by myriads of angels, living creatures & elders. It was through the desire to receive such praise & being like the most High, that Satan previously Gods angel was dethroned in a war that erupted in heaven where Satan & his angels were defeated by Michael & his angels (Rev 12:7-9). Jesus instructs that worship belongs to God alone; when He was tempted to worship Satan & said, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve “ (Mat 4:9-10).
PRAYER
I will praise You with my whole heart Father & tell of all Your marvellous works. I will be glad & rejoice in You, for You are worthy to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory & blessing. I will sing & praise Your name, O Most High, forever & ever. Amen
Acts 5:17-19
Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation, and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out,
INSIGHT
-The Apostles performed many miracles, signs & wonders in Jerusalem & were highly esteemed by the people. This distressed the high priest & Sadducees who imprisoned them. In their cause of life, the apostles made God their pillar & He sent his angel by night to free them from affliction.
SUMMARY
-Angel is written as malak in Hebrew & it means envoy. Angels were created by God to serve Him & His children, are powerful spirits, immortal, have different ranks & functions & cannot reproduce. They ranks as follows:- Angel of the Lord, Archangels, Principalities, Cherubim & Seraphim.
-Their primary role is to worship God, serve Him & serve His children. As servants of God, they heed to His divine assignments according to their functions. Cherubim who protected Gods holiness were placed in the garden of Eden after the fall of man to guard the way to the tree of life. They also guarded the ark of the Testimony thus protecting the law given to Moses. Principalities on the other hand are angels of darkness who war against Abraham’s seed. Satan, their leader was once an angel of the Lord but in his selfish ambitions wanted to be like God & Archangel Michael fought him together with his troops out of heaven. In one instance in Daniel’s life, these principalities caused a three weeks delay in his prayer & Archangel Michael ministered to him. This brings us to a realization that we war against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness & spiritual hosts. The Angel of the Lord who is highest in rank appeared to Moses in form of a burning bush. Moses was instructed to take off his sandals for His presence made the place holy. Joshua received the same instruction when he went to battle against Jericho. He worshiped the Angel of Lord, Who did not stop him for it is an abomination to worship angels. Further, God told the Israelites that, He has send His angel before them, Whos’ name is in Him, has power to pardon transgressions & will bring them to the promised land. Christ is therefore referred to as the Angel of the Lord in Old Testament until John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Him so that He could dwell among us. Angels worship God in myriads as experienced by John in Revelation. PRAYER
We thank You Father for the peace & tranquillity that we continue to experience in our lives & country. May we experience the same peace that only You can provide. We know that You send your angels to protect us at the wake of danger & minister to us when we are weary. We give You thanks & worship You for You are worthy to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory & blessing. Guide us in our lives & help us to know You more. Amen
