THEME: THE WORD OF GOD
Matthew 7:24-25
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
INSIGHT
-Deuteronomy 28 explains the blessings that accompany obedience to God’s commandments and the disasters that come with disobedience. Jesus Christ is our Rock in whom we stand. Without the Rock how can we stand? It is through hearing His word and obeying it that we demonstrate His love, and He loves us, and He comes together with the Father to build their home with us (John 14:23). When trials and troubles come, we should be found standing and never fall. Christ is the bread of life and calls us to believe in Him that we may never thirst nor hunger but have everlasting life.
SUMMARY
The word of God is true and right, and gives life to men. Through it, God speaks to us. All scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness that man should be complete in every good work. The Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of truth guides us in all truth (John 16:13). The word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The word of God clearly discusses both good and evil. The entrance of God’s word in our lives gives light and understanding to the simple (Psalm 119:130). God calls us to lay aside all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking, as newborn babes and desire the pure milk of the word, that we may grow. The word of God is Jesus Christ who allows us to interact with Him in all dimensions of life and know His will for us. The word of God is the source of light and there will be no need for the sun and moon for Jesus will be the only source of Light. The word of God became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory. Jesus had to come into the world as fully God and fully Man, so that the will of God may be accomplished. Through His word, God enlightens our hearts and removes all evil. He cautions us from murmuring and complaining which is a pathway to eternal condemnation. The word of God is a weapon against the snares of the devil as it helps us to resist temptations like Jesus did. We are able to flee from the devil through applying the word and he will flee from us. We are called then to read, study, meditate on it and act on it so that we may walk in God’s will. When we interact with the word of God, we gain hope through many stories, parables, promises, covenants, truths and revelations that draw us closer to God and bring us to have faith in Him. God also speaks various promises and seals covenants with us, and reveals our identity in Christ when we believe. The point is that we are called to believe in the word of God so that it may live effectively as the image and likeness of Christ. We are not only called to hear the word of God but to walk in it. We are then able to function in the gifts and the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and apply His word through love in all situations and our callings. Since the just shall live by faith, through believing in Christ we have abundant life in Him that transcends into life everlasting.
